Erbil, Nov.23 (AKnews) - Former Kurdistan Region premier, Nechirvan Barzani, called the late Danielle Mitterrand the "Kurds' Mother" on his Facebook page.

Late Mrs. Mitterrand was the widow of French President François Mitterrand. She died on Monday night at the age of 87.

Barzani described Mrs Mitterrand as a "heroine …and old friend of Kurds" and expressed his sympathy over her death.

"I have met with this respectful lady several times and have valued her position towards the right cause of the Kurd's," Mr. Barzani wrote on his status update.

At the same time he expressed his fulfillment that Mrs. Mitterrand visited Kurdistan shortly before she died to launch a school named after her.

"The Kurdish nation regards this lady as a hero and will never forget her…Future generations will also remember her with honor and sympathy."
