"But even if the current count is perfect, roughly 9,780 people have died of all causes over the past month in New York City, about 5,000 more than is typical.

The numbers for the last two weeks of the period are even more stark: nearly 7,000 dead, more than three times as many deaths as would normally be expected this time of year."

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive...w-york-city.html?referringSource=articleShare

The right-wing echo chambers have been pushing the idea we're over-counting deaths. We're not. We're undercounting them. By a lot.

Like so many LW, the Law of Large Numbers is not your friend, especially where meaningful actuarial and similar analysis is concerned.

But hell, I'll play anyway. Since 1. this "pandemic" is irrefutably proven to be tightly centralized in a few urban areas at this point, eh MOSTLY NYC; and 2. the government's models are now irrefutably proven inaccurate and way on the high side, then...

...you will be cheerfully joining me and all of the other many fine, honest, ethical people who post here of ANY political bent in celebration that the entire rest of the country should be reopened in every possible way ASAP without any hesitation or doubt whatsoever. Right? RIGHT?

Before we go any further, why is pandemic in quotes?

Because based on faulty government models, a reasonable person, and especially many reasonable practicing epidemiologists, would not be able to attribute the term "pandemic" to what has actually become a severe but LOCALIZED viral outbreak. Some scientists would of course still use the term, I have no doubt of that, and do not dispute it. Some would not.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_epidemics

Despite the wiki article's title, many scientists would call many of the outbreaks of infectious disease "pandemic" and many would not. That is why I put the term in quotes. If the government had not ****ed up the models so incompetently and so expensively, I'd probably omit the quotation marks... but that incompetence/graft/tortfeasance, needs to be emphasized whenever this "pandemic" is discussed, and you can be assured it will be among millions of reasonable, professional people.

But back to the point of my post (which is only tangentially related to the how pandemics are defined... in case anyone is tempted to be disingenuous, fallacious or plain dishonest):

Since 1. this "pandemic" is irrefutably proven to be tightly centralized in a few urban areas at this point, eh MOSTLY NYC; and 2. the government's models are now irrefutably proven inaccurate and way on the high side, then you will be cheerfully joining me and all of the other many fine, honest, ethical people who post here of ANY political bent in celebration that the entire rest of the country should be reopened in every possible way ASAP without any hesitation or doubt whatsoever. Take a look at this map of infections: https://www.arcgis.com/apps/opsdash...4740fd40299423467b48e9ecf6?mod=article_inline

You see all those red dots all over the world? Right. This is a pandemic. Not a "pandemic". A pandemic. You'll notice even the Trump Administration has no problem with the word. Of course they don't. Dr. Fouci is a reputable scientist.

Now, zoom in a bit on America. You see that ocean of red dots? Right again. It's not just "a few urban areas" is it?

And that's probably going to be our last exchange on this, as you clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Good day!

Covid-19 borrowed many deaths from tommorow's old age coding.

Nonresponsive, ironically and hilariously so as stated right in my prior post... and walked into the rake anyway, not surprised. So let's try this again.

Are you aware that the state of New York (not the city, the whole state) doesn't even account for half the deaths in this country? Are you also somehow not aware that we're losing 1,800+ people a day now? https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

"Coronavirus now killing more Americans than cancer, heart disease: report"
    https://www.foxnews.com/health/coronavirus-now-killing-more-americans-than-cancer-heart-disease-report

And you think we should reopen things? This is why it's hard to take you seriously and why I'm not going to bother from this point on.

    1. Here is the IRREFUTABLE proof of overcounting by the CDC, posted several times, doing so again.

    https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/nvss/vsrg/vsrg03-508.pdf

    2. Here are two credible doctors calling out the overcounting, highly recommended.

    Jensen from Minnesota
    Bukacek from Montana

(both linked in earlier threads recently, search youtube for "NAME CDC overcounting) and if need to see them again

    3. In a country of utterly INSANE, violently TDS LW all over the country, with thousands of datapoints, everything from nursing home employees planning physical harm to patients, to regular physical and property assaults by LW, and "The Resistance" trying to unseat a duly elected POTUS holding sway for several years now and coming to a head near the election, HOW MANY blue state city bureaucrats and other LW are forcing and fluffing using the CDC scam numbers for $$, for control or the most likely cause "ORANGEMANBAD."

    4. The ridiculous, WILDLY inaccurate, incompetent Government Bureaucrat models are so well-known that I won't link those. Only someone living under a rock wouldn't know how overwrought were, and many are rightly suspecting that those are PURPOSEFUL inaccuracies.

    5. It's outrageously trivial if only the few cities of outbreak are removed from the rest of the country. ANY claim, estimate, from wherever that keeps the charade that this is some NATIONAL U.S. crisis when the numbers come nowhere close to bearing that out is a LIAR trying to SCARE you with their MALICIOUS, HARMFUL LIES.

    6. Again for emphasis, any narrative that does not immediately begin separating the various sections of the country OUT from the rest in some adult, rational way is a LIE purposefully crafted to scare you and your families. Don't buy it.

Based on irresponsibly inaccurate and flawed government models, any account of ongoing incidences of this virus MUST BE COMPARTMENTALIZED BY GEOGRAPHY (state, county, city). Anyone who continues to shovel this into some "one size fits all" moral panic of indefinite duration indiscriminately in light of VASTLY different data across different parts of the country, counties, cities or even whole countries, is a fear-monger, because no rational data supports that across the whole country.

    1. For the (very) few X number of viral hotspots across the country, no air travel in or out for at least another month, together with preexisting sheltering in place as government decides.
    2. For the whole rest of the country? Reopens ASAP in every possible way no later than 4/30. National Guard on the off chance of Governor noncompliance.

The sheer fact that they are having to use mass grave burials suggests an undercounting of COVID deaths

    You're undercounting infections.

People die. That's life in the big bad world.
Doing stupid **** that does nothing but harm many millions more, is knee jerk idiocracy.

You only have to listen to the first minute to know why NYC got hit so hard.

I've heard too many stories from too many states/cities that if someone is suspected of dying from the virus then they get counted as dying from the virus. NYC is one of those cities.

    Just NY? Really?

I vote that everyone that thinks this is a non-issue, a hoax if you will, should ignore the warnings and gather in large groups.
Make sure to deny medical treatment, it’s just like the flu apparently. Smh

Gee wouldn’t it have been nice if there had been a pandemic response team that could have co ordinated the information and advice given to all mayors and governors?

Testing is being prioritized for those who are obviously sick. Corpses get whatever tests are left over. As long as the testing reamains FUBAR, we're obviously going to miss a lot of deaths from this.

I know, right? I wish a former president who had to deal with two health emergencies had set up something like a, oh I don't know, pandemic response team?

    Great article!

Over the last two weeks, the city's fire officials said more than 2,192 New York City residents died in their homes, compared to 453 during the same time period last year.

You still think we're overcounting Covid deaths?

    1. Did you actually think that I would try to analyze those gobbledygook "fear-porn-du-jour" maps from wherever as opposed to expecting some semblance of reasoned, direct, adult response to any of my numbered posts to this thread and all the FACTS contained in them instead?

    You'd be mistaken.

    2. Funny Straw Man right there in print in trying to scam us from my "MOSTLY NYC" to your fallacious "Just NY" do you lot ever even stop to think that the things you post and type are still right there in the thread, often just a few posts up? No? Not surprised.

    3. Rest of the post is, as usual from you, gibberish.

Remember the swine flu. Well it was hardly reported. 60.8 million infected in 2009-2010. 12,500 dead that first time around. After the 2009-2010 flue season, they changed the reference for fear it would be known as the Obama - Biden flu, and they couldn't have that. It came back in 2014 ,,, I don't know if anyone noticed because it wasn't reported. It was dominant in the first half of the 2018 - 2019 flu season, killing 19,000 Americans by February 15. There is plenty of cause for cynicism since the bureaucratic state has politicized disease and weaponized Covid-19 against the Trump administration as they weaponized everything else.
