Well, well, what do you think about this? Reminds me of Madeline O'Hare's oldest son becoming an evangelist. http://reasonsforjesus.com/debunking-christianity-writer-becomes-christian-evidence/
Here's a site that has thousands of folks who have deconverted away from various sects of the Christian religion. http://www.ex-christian.net And, I don't care what you think about it.
I hope he finds what he is looking for, as I do anyone else who converts or deconverts. I just want him to hold on to his individual sense of humanity whatever his relationship may be a deity. While we don't need really one more or one fewer Christians or Agnostics or Muslims or Hindus or atheists, we can always use some more nice, basically decent people around the corner.
I think it’s impossible to truly know what he actually believed at any one point (I doubt he was entirely clear on it himself, hence the series of ideological shifts). He describes himself as having been a sceptic and this article suggests he was involved in a specifically anti-Christian website, which I’d argue is closer to any given religion than a “natural” agnostic-atheism. He also talks about looking in to lots of different religions and beliefs, suggesting a common theme of wanting/needing something to believe in rather than reaching an open conclusion and given a Christian background, that is always going to be his most likely destination. Personally, I don’t really care. I hope he is happy with where he is in his live and can take the positive aspects of religion in general and Christianity in particular without falling foul of too many of the negatives (which based on this does seem to be the case). I also hope not too many people use him and his story as a tool to promote their personal socio-political positions and instead leave him to get on with living his life the way he wants to.
The bottom line is that being a Christian simply means liking Jesus, you don't have to go to church or be baptised or any of that stuff! And he's a great guy and role mode so there's nothing to dislike about him anyway, he's a great rebel who busts us out of the shackles put on us by the worldly Establishment .. Jesus said- "The world wants you to dance to its tune......God has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners...to release the oppressed" (Matt 11:16/17,Luke 4:18 ) and people quickly realised- "Jesus saved you from the empty way of life handed you by your forefathers" (1 Peter 1:18 ) so naturally the Establishment killed him to shut him up-
Looks like he did find what he was lookin I think he should be used as an example. The Scriptures say "seek, knock", etc, and God will reveal himself. He's living proof.
I don’t think he should be used for anything, he should just be free to get on with his life. How can this single example of a shift in beliefs be proof when lots of people also move away from Christianity, either to some position of scepticism or non-belief or to other religions? By your argument, those examples would be living proof of the truth of each and every one of those beliefs and religions too, which is obviously impossible.
Having attended a few Southern Baptists revivals during my dissolute younger days I can attest to the fact that testimony of reformed atheists is even more compelling than that of reformed boozers. Books and tapes on sale for just $19.95 after the service.
So some writer get's indoctrinated by sophisticated mind control techniques .. not much of a surprise in that. What is interesting is how many Ministers and Priests (along with hoards of parishioners) have been managing to escape the indoctrination. This seems a function of increased information these days. The Truth will set you free !
