It's optional of course...but I would consider it a sign of respect. Sarah Palin hasn't earned any respect from the left, and I don't believe people on the right are being honest if they say Palin deserves respect.

And I disagree.... she does deserve respect..... When most people would abort a child like Trig.... she didn't and she chose to love and raise him. Yes. Because that's how both sitting and former presidents are addressed. Different rule for governors. It is no way disrespectful, for example, to address Mario Cuomo as "Mr. Cuomo" and it is in fact disrespectful to his son -- the current governor of New York -- to address him that way. If you were meeting both men, they would be correctly introduced to you as "Governor Cuomo and Mr. Cuomo."

Likewise, if you were in a room full of all the governors of Alaska, the proper way to introduce and/or address them would be as follows...

"Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the Alaska governors' roundtable. We are pleased to have with us today Governor Parnell, Mrs. Palin, Mr. Murkowski, Mr. Knowles, Mr. Hickel, Mr. Cowper, and Mr. Sheffield."

So, the only time it was correct to address Sarah Palin as Governor Palin was between December 4, 2006 and July 26, 2009 when she occupied the Alaska Governors' Mansion. Prior to that she was Mrs. Palin and she is now again...

You address them as President Bush, President Obama, President Bush, President Clinton, and President Carter. You may also address any of them as Mr. President. But you can not address Mario Cuomo as Mr. Governor, nor Sarah Palin as Madam Governor. Clear? Good.
