It was close, but they pulled it off: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/10/04/west-virginians-vote-for-governor As the story notes, Tomblin was the early favorite, but anti-incumbent and anti-Democrat sentiment helped Maloney close the gap in the final weeks. West Virginia is something of a special case. Pretty conservative and yet heavily pro-union, with a tendency to vote GOP in national races and Democrat in local ones. It's not like the Republicans nearly won in Vermont or something like that. But both sides have something to brag about. For Democrats, it shows they can still win close races, and it gives them a much-needed shot in the arm. Republicans can claim they nearly pulled off an upset in a traditionally blue state. As a predictor for 2012, it's basically "future unclear."
Wow, I hadn't heard anything about this, I wonder why? Maybe the corporate "liberal" media isn't so liberal?
Considering the left is attempting to KILL the coal industry, I can only wonder why they would vote Democrat? Robert Byrd with his power and influence isn't around anymore.
