The Democratic Party used to call itself the party of working people and hail the “dignity of work.” No more. Now Democrats want to guarantee people who choose not to work an income funded by the suckers who do the right thing by showing up for work, caring for their family and paying taxes. Fortunately, these self-supporting Americans just dodged a bullet. The failure to pass Build Back Better in Congress, thanks to holdout Sen. Joe Manchin (D-West Virginia) means that the monthly checks or automatic bank deposits to parents with kids, sometimes dubbed Biden Bucks, come to an end this month. For working people, the monthly payments were merely an advance on their tax refunds — but parents who choose not to work have been getting no-strings money to support their nonworking lifestyle. Using the pretext of pandemic relief, Democrats enacting the American Rescue Plan last March changed a feature of the tax code — the child tax credit available to adults who work and pay taxes — into a grant paid unconditionally and monthly to almost all adults with kids, whether they work or not. Democrats have been pushing to extend the monthly payments through 2022 as part of the Build Back Better Act, with a plan to make them permanent. Manchin saw right through what his party intended: a socialist-style universal basic income. Manchin objected to the unconditional monthly cash grants: “There’s no work requirement whatsoever.” read more at: https://amac.us/dems-reject-work-ethic-embrace-freeloaders/ This creators syndicate op-Ed is exactly right about this topic. The democrat party has rejected the working class completely. They are driven by their bi coastal secular progressive urban elites and their limousine liberal friends. Their programs support the non working poor. The democrats are an alliance of the rich and the poor against the small entrepreneurs, middle class, and the working class.
Sen. Manchin is right. All government welfare and income support plans should come with a work requirement for the able bodied. The work ethic is still a key building block to a successful and prosperous nation.
Fortunately red states are openly offering jobs to those in blue states who lost their jobs over the issue.
actually, red states are opening unemployment to those that want to quit working, all they have to do is refuse the vaccine to get that free money and the best part, you don't even have to prove you did not get the vaccine
It is stupid that blue cities and blue states are trying to or are following through with firing employees over their free will choice with regard to taking an experimental medication.
There are other places where conservative thought and opinion is not allowed and are perfect secular progressive echo chambers. Occupy Democrats and Democrat Underground come to mind among others. Did you complain about all the stuff directed at Trump and his supporters the prior four years? Or is your indignation selective.? I thought the African American creators syndicate writer that AMAC carried was right on!
If you are against the stimulus checks to parents, then you are anti-family. The multiple general stimulus checks to the whole of the population were, perhaps, a bit too much, but, in America, parenthood, especially during the pandemic, depends on these benefits. It's been the case that children were left out of the vaccination plan because there were no approved drugs for children. So, often, one of the parents needed to stay home with the children to watch them because the kids couldn't go out or go to public school. Taking online classes instead. And, also, in general, the recent generation, millennials, were raised with the idea that reducing the population was an important thing to do. I know I was raised that way, exposed to the idea that there were too many people in the world. So, population growth has been on the downturn and someone desperately needs to offer a benefit to start having families, and bigger families. We can't force people to have children, but we can increase the benefits for those who do. The only ones who would be against it are people without children who are spoiled and want some benefits for themselves.
We will never know that, they have the stats concerning this so convoluted the liars at the top can't even figure it out now..
The Trump tax reform doubled the per child tax credit. I agree with Senator Manchin that any expansion of that benefit beyond that should be tied to income caps and to work requirements for the able bodied.
The Trump child tax credit shows that helping parents with children financially is a bipartisan issue, with bipartisan support. Adding income caps and work requirements is unbelievable! Why would any politician support adding those things?! The only reason would be to poison-pill any legislation in preparation for the next election. Sour grapes!
I favor income caps and work requirements for payouts above and beyond the Trump tax cuts child tax credit. I don’t support adding any extra steps to earn 2020 level child tax credits.
I don't even know if you would call them Conservatives anymore. A lot on our side are technically middle ground - even conservative-leaning. I think it boils down to whether you buy into the philosophies of Donald J Trump, or not. The extreme right has found its cackling chorus and their Fürer. And a media conglomerate that is gleefully cashing in feeding them nasty dog-scraps. Strap yourself in, and don't be disheartened. It's going to get worse before it gets better, but just remember they are in (an increasing) minority.
