US considers restricting travel to Europe
    https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/11/politics/cucinelli-us-travel-restrictions-europe/index.html

Maybe it wasn't such a bad idea for the UK to be in control of it's immigration policy. The Ireland border kerfuffle that derailed Brexit looks laughably petty right now. There's some debate about whether travel restrictions do much good, but if I was a country at this moment, I would want to be in charge of who goes in and out.

It kills me to say it, but Boris might have been right in the end. Typing that sentence was a like a dagger right through the ego.

Always a good idea to get sovereignty back .

For that is basic common sense .

The Irish border problem hasn't gone away. The border between the EU and the UK has simply moved to the middle of the Irish Sea. This is a fudge which means that Northern Ireland is now still a part of the EU (in terms of no border checks) whilst still in the UK. It means that in practice it is a backdoor between the EU and the UK. This fudge cannot last.
This situation has come about because a hard border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland would break the Good Friday Agreement and risk a return to violence. There is nothing petty about not wanting a return to civil war in Northern Ireland.
BTW, many countries within the EU are placing restrictions on travel from other EU countries as a result of the coronavirus. It makes no difference whether the UK is in or out we have the power to make these travel restrictions either way.
Don't worry, Boris was not right and there is still no reason to think that Brexit is a good idea.

I think if the trade talks between EU and UK would not be fruitful, I'm sure UK will aim it's attention towards China the main source of corona virus. If that be realized, I could see a lot of Chinese folks roaming around UK peddling their wares and of course the traditional bat soup and fried pangolins of course.

Kudos for exploring other viewpoints as new circumstances arrive. Not many do.

I wish our 'merican friends knew what they were talking about when they talk about non-'merican politics.
Firstly, the claim that countries give up their sovereignty once they join the EU is highly incorrect and painfully simplified.
Secondly, in the light of the current corona situation, countries are controlling their borders and are in charge of who goes in/out.
Austria is controlling its borders, so are Switzerland, Germany, Spain, Hungary, Czech Republic, etc.

This is not anti EU and Britain was doing it as well. I just do not know what we were doing allowing flights in from Italy and virtually forcing people to take holidays in Italy (no refund) after it was obvious it had taken off. The most important thing with this virus is containment. By the way Congratulations on Germany only having 3 deaths. Looks like you have a very good health service...but I hear you are not going to export any of your masks ;)
