DeSantis changed the agenda for the week to also include a review of "independent special districts that were established prior to November 5, 1968." That would include the Reedy Creek Improvement Act, passed by the Legislature in 1967 to help establish Walt Disney World.

It doesn't matter if you believe Disney deserves "special status" or not. Makes no difference what you think about DeSantis' "Don't say Gay" bill. The fact that DeSantis is doing this to silence free speech is clearly fascism.

DeSantis had already threatened this, and made no secret of the fact that this was because of Disney speaking against his "Don't Say Gay" bill

So will the Republican Party officially become the new American Fascist Party by supporting this?

No I don't! I support the rich paying their fair share, but not a penny more.

On a side note, did you know that binary thinking is sign of low intellectual effort.

He may be in the process of destroying the long term greatest financial asset in the history of Florida. Disney brings in more money and fills more hotel rooms and inns and B&B's than all of Florida's beaches combined. Biting off one's nose to spite one's face???

Doesn't "fair" mean that its the same for everyone? It looks like he is giving you what you have been asking for.

Did you know that resorting to ad hominem fallacies only reveal ones inability to challenge a position on its merit?

Hollywood film industry will continue to enjoy tax credits gifted to them by the party they tow the line for.

Thanks to the left's reaction to Musk trying to take over Twitter, we've learned that censoring speech IS free speech.

And Disney can suck on it. Anyone who wants to teach their 3 year olds about how they were born the wrong gender can do it at home and not shock, confuse, or plant their thoughts into the minds of other people's children.

Thanks to Elon Musk, the Washington Post has determined that censorship is free speech. Bask in what you've created and enjoy it.

Residents of Orange County who will now have to pay the bill to maintain the miles and miles of Disney roads might disagree.

Disney in Florida does not try to teach anyone, they are there to provide entertainment and vacuum up all the money tourists are willing to spend with them.

Here’s a tip for ya, the rights in the constitution are our rights, not the rights of the government.

I'm tired of all the talk to side step the issue or the defense of DeSantis because Disney is now grooming children. The issue here is that he is using an act established in 1968 to punish a company who defied him publicly. Had they not done that, do you think he'd even know about the Reedy Creek Improvement Act? Doubtful. Way to go Ron!

This is kind of funny for all the free speech advocates. How many threads have there been on this forum complaining about violation of peoples rights to free speech and then others point out that freedom of speech does not cover repercussions taken by private companies or individuals against said speech. Well now we actually have an example that seems to fit the category of government interference, where the government is punishing a private company for speech they do not like. They are no even trying to disguise it. Here is a real opportunity to voice concerns over freedom of speech. I am no constitutional expert on free speech but I also took it to mean this:

DeSantis has criticized the company for opposing a bill that he sign which limits instruction about gender identity and sexual orientation in kindergarten through third grade. Disney said that the bill should never have passed and should never have been signed into law and that it would work to have it repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts.
When did theme parks become activist in state governments again?

If Disney wants to embrace woke ideology and threaten the state on their law provisions and tie up our court systems then they should be regulated by Counties they reside in like every other business in the state. But like most woke ideologies they expect special privileges and believe they are the spokesperson for everyone.
I guess they are getting woke up. lol

Wow!! Where have you been, my friend??... that ship sailed several years ago...

I have no special love for the Disney company, although I've been to both theme parks over the years (once each). But I'm certainly rooting for a private company to be able to question the laws of one of the states they do business in.

Unfortunately, it would be a bitch to move Disneyworld to a real state, but it needs to be on the table at some point.... Unfortunately, most of the hot weather states are run by the AFP, so it would be hard to find a replacement...

When Georgia elects Stacey governor, maybe she'll make a pitch...

Yet it isn't a free speech issue. Disney is actively working to have the law repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts that limits instruction about gender identity and sexual orientation in kindergarten through third grade.

And then crying about free speech? If they actually had a case they would be crying about the case.

I am not sure how this disqualifies it from being a free speech issue. Private companies and individuals are allowed to voice their concerns against legislation. The NRA are a perfect example of this. In retaliation for speaking out against the legislation DeSantis is threatening to punish them eliminating their special status. He is not even saying they were going to remove their special status regardless. This is an action by government to retaliate against a private company voicing an opinion.
