Bill Barr said on Fox News Sunday: “I think the document case is the most serious case. I don't think they went after those documents to get Trump. I think they actually wanted the documents back.”

    And recently, Thom Hartmann wrote:

Did Trump sell those stolen top-secret documents to the Saudis in exchange for the nearly $3 billion that country has given his family since he left the White House? It’s increasingly looking like that’s a line of inquiry that Jack Smith is pursuing, going after video security footage from Mar-a-Lardo [sic] and calling in virtually everybody who worked there to testify before a grand jury. Smith is also going after Trump’s business records around the LIV Golf Tournament, which the Saudi government invented right after Trump left office and it seems Trump is the primary beneficent of. We already know that after Jared Kushner was given a top-secret security clearance (over the objection of the intelligence community), he went to Saudi Arabia and hung out with Mohammed Bin Salman, who was then not in charge of the country. Shortly thereafter, apparently using inside intelligence from US sources, Bin Salman arrested many of his relatives and wrested control of the nation away from the rightful heir, his cousin, who was the son of the king and grandson of Saudi Arabia’s founder. Kushner apparently also helped MBS deal with the fallout from his murder of Jamal Kashoggi, the Washington Post writer and US resident. This entire situation has the potential to get very, very ugly. Selling out your country — and your country’s principles — for $2 billion is not something most Americans support…

    ---------------------------

Note that beginning in 2008, Jack Smith worked for the International Criminal Court and oversaw war crimes investigations under the Office of the Prosecutor for two years. In 2010, he became chief of the Public Integrity Section of the Justice Department, where he oversaw litigation of public corruption cases. So this is a case well suited for Mr. Smith.

I agree with Barr. The classified documents case will be Trump's most serious violation - and if nothing else lands him in prison, this may be what does.

On principle, I prefer for trump to go down for trying to overturn the election.
That is the real crime against our country and democracy, and was unique in our history.

I suspect that Jack Smith will be able to shed light on this soon enough but I would not put it past Trump nor Kushner. Clock's ticking Jack....

    That too.

One of the J6 rioters, Peter Schwartz, got 14 years (prosecutors had recommended 24 1/2 years) for attacking police with a folding chair & police-issue super-soaker pepper spray. What should Trump, the ring leader & benefactor of the insurrection attempt, get?

The weight of J6 and the classified docs cases would put anyone else in prison for life.

Yes, this should be interesting. The more a criminal gets away with, the more confident they become, and hence the bigger the crimes they progressively commit. Trump bit off more than he could chew on this. No Roy Cohn/mafia-style lawyer can save him from this.
