-a common slam on Flint's east side, an area know for it's crime and residents' poor decisions. we've known the effects of lead for a long time, and that crime was constrained to areas with older homes still having lead paint and high traffic volume. why we didn't notice the connection sooner escapes me. Lead and Crime: Assessing the Evidence
I found that study pretty amazing when I read it. It really does seem to tie together pretty closely. On the other hand, there are a lot of other major changes that happened during the same time period, so it might be other factors or a combination of factors.
Anything to point the direction away from the 800 pound gorilla in the room (i.e. the black and hispanic population in cities with high crime rates)? Lead paint may have a trace of merit but it is unlikely a prominent factor.
where do those minorities that get involved in crime live? in the cities where there was a high level of leaded gas exhaust and lead paint...and there's still lead paint. minorities in rural didn't have nearly the crime rate. it's not all of it, but it's a good chunk.
sorry, the medical evidence is overwhelming, and it is not race is not an issue. lead posioning (*)(*)(*)(*)s up your head. just be glad we stopped using it in gas and paint a long time ago.
