Europeans have a very comfortable lifestyle infused with culture Americans have no notion of. They are more likely to be concerned about what is happening in Libya than in the USA. The same is true (now that the toadie Blair) has left, of Great Britain. It is certainly true of Australasia. Is the US now, given its humbled condition, merely an itch on the pimple of European consciousness of irrelevancies? Ask the average Italian, Frenchman, Brit or NZder whether they give a frisson about the US. I suspect the answer is probably no. But then the US is equally unconcerned about Europe. It is too consumed by China to notice there is another world of style, culture, tradition, music (real music) and language.
