Lets clear something up, do you a liberal or conservative or whatever support or oppose building a really secure wall on the Southern border?

If so, then the reasons are obvious.

But if not, Im not so clear why you would oppose that - please explain.

    And vote!

The Berlin Wall was stupid and a wall along the US/Mexican border would be stupid.

I support a wall on the Southern border, along with sniper towers, armed drones, and land mines.

if it wasnt effective no one would be against it. Hungary built their wall (at significantly lower cost than 3-4 million per mile price tag that the left is quoting) and it seems to be working.

Absolutely we are seeing more and more drugs entering our Country along with drug cartel thugs . With 16 to 20 million illegals here now some being criminals , murders , rapist . The US taxpayers are beginning to feel the effects with having to provide welfare , extra teachers in every class to accommodate those who are unable or unwilling to learn our language . We are seeing more and more hospitals going bankrupt because they have to care for them regardless of ability to pay . The free ride and gravy train has to come to a screeching halt !!!!

And you support the massive government confiscation of private land (including from several cities) in order to get that done?

Nice to see a con openly cheering increasing government power at individual expense.

The government always had this power, conservatives understand the need for national security and border protection. If it means paying off some individuals, so be it.

Ever seen a map of Europe? Hungary is a landlocked country. Building a wall around it doesn't stop the migrants coming from Syria. It only ensures they go other places.

The low cost per mile for the Hungarian wall is due to the fact people trying to come in have other options and aren't determinably trying to breach it.

To do this, government would have to use existing Eminent Domain laws to secure the necessary land, and under those laws must pay adequate and fair compensation for the land. Your use of the word 'confiscation' is misleading.

Yes, by all means, point to a completely different scenario in order to prove your scenario will work.

    - - - Updated - - -

And given the history of eminent domain, your use of "adequate and fair compensation" is misleading.

That is, after all, what the law says. Who decides what 'adequate and fair' means, in such cases, is the salient question.

Egyptians have a mighty fine wall as do the Israelis. East Germany had one of the best. North Korea is doing pretty well with their wall. Baghdad has a fine wall doing wonders for the green zone.

When it comes to national security the government takes phone records or whatever else is needed. So why not? This is a silly argument surely you can do better.

if were being completely honest they also couple with reduced benefits for people who do get in something we are going to have to do as well to remove the incentive for people to breach.

I oppose. I think a better choice is to harshly punish companies who hire illegals.

Actually, the reason for a southern wall aren't so obvious. What we usually hear is that without a wall, we have no sovereign country, anchor babies, and defense against people coming here from enemies of war to terrorize American citizens.

But the primary reason for immigration laws, and enforcing those laws, is to protect the American worker and the wages from falling. We hear democrats complain about income inequality, but they fail to tell the whole story. If workers aren't competing with foreign workers for jobs then income/wages would rise as they should. The BLS estimates that both legal and illegal immigrants in the country are around 25 million since Obama took offoice. BONUS, no need for minimum wages either!

That strikes 2 democrat issues with one issue solved.

to do that we need to protect the jobs that pay well, we need to reduce foreign outsourcing

make it a felony to knwoingly hire illegals and illegals stop stealing min wage jobs

a wall doesn't stop foreign outsourcing though
