Actually there is. The post WW-II norm of no direct imperialism in the form of hostile takeovers and annexation of countries. Something that has caused relative stability and no WWIII. It's self-determination vs imperialism, really. And I know some argue that the US is imperialistic too, but we don't take over countries to add them to our "empire" anymore. It was all about trying to do what we did to Japan after WW2 each time, though it usually didn't work out well.

It is true there is an emotional component to it though. Americans care more about Ukrainians than many other potential targets because they are more similar to us than most.

Well I assume that we'll be sanctioning China and sending weapons to free Tibet then.

Normal people blame the Russians for that.

Normal people also blame the Russia for the genocides that Russia is committing.

I'm making it clear where we all stand. Those supporting Ukraine are trying to stop genocide, while those opposing that support are enablers of genocide.

Name a country that doesn’t have a percentage of homeless in their population and what would be your fix for it anyway.

Voting "integrity" is beginning to be more and more voting limitations

Each person has one voice and so should get ONE vote, not the equivalent of more than that.

If you want more of a say in government, get more voices (votes)

Normal people worry that the regions of Luhansk and Donetsk in Ukraine aren't being represented in the Ukranian 'democracy', for example.

No, they had millions of dollars invested in the freedom of human beings. No surprisingly, they didn’t want to give up that investment.

Russia has a huge amount of oil and gas as well as other things we need.

Personally, I'd suggest we make an arrangement and share our resources.

Maybe. But the problem is not so much with the US public, but that Biden hates everyone.

Get rid of Biden and bring in some new people like Andrew Yang and Tulsi Gabbard and things could get a whole lot better.

That was the Iraq war justification. We know Russians are not coming here. With Vietnam it was the Domino Theory aka the Anti-Communist fervor. After a coupe of years if was really just about American pride and the fear of not winning, but the official excuse remained the same.

The current friction is part of China sales pitch to other dictatorships that the true struggle is to maintain and increase dictatorships and monarchies because that is the way it was before America, and that is the way it is supposed to be. Individual freedom is a fad.
Above all, dictatorships want order and stability (Insert video of BLM anarchy, drugs, crime, etc.)
China knows what matters to kings.

    I thought this "settled science".

ITMT: they've not made a credible public case for our support for Ukraine for example. But there we are. I understand we do have boots on the ground. They are supposed to be trying to oversee the use of resources we are sending them to avoid another Afghanistan style disgrace (ie, they said they had x number of troops requiring x $ to pay them when they had 1/100x and pocketed the rest). Vietnam started in a similar fashion. Then they created the false flag of the Gulf of Tonkin and got 70K men, average age of 19, killed. Then we bailed so it was for nothing. And the only impact was that the US accepted refugees. Who we would not have had to do so had we not gotten involved in the 1st place.

Today, I am as (maybe more) terrified of the big pharma-government complex than the military. You can volunteer to join the military. They can take your job if you don't get a clot shot. Happy heart attacks all!
