Picture this: when I emerged from a Marks & Spencer store yesterday afternoon, there was a young spaniel-type dog tied to one of the anti-ramming stanchions at the front, and until it realised I wasn't its owner, had been excitedly wagging its tail in anticipation. Then a woman approached the store as if to enter it, but upon seeing the dog she went into a paroxysm of indignation, ranting about how wrong it was of the owner to leave the animal outside. Stating the obvious - that if everyone took their dogs into a department store, there would be a strong probability at some time or other that one of them would 'have an accident', she replied 'Well they probably have someone to do that sort of thing!' I left her freaking out about the dog, anxiously going to and fro to the foyer hoping to see the owner about to exit, and returning to 'comfort' the dog . . . which until then was quite happily waiting for its owner, and wagging its tail at everyone else who came out, the same as it had to me. The animal was probably thinking 'WTF?'
I take my GSD 'Anke' with me for errands all the time. I don't take her with me when I know that the premises I enter don't allow canines (restaurants, theaters etc.). I view my GSD being with me as somewhat tantamount to open carry, lol. Thankfully, I'm privileged to be able to CC most everywhere I go, even in the few 'hostile' CC states that I live / work in.
