I had heard that the decision to kill Soleimani was made some time ago. A report has apparently come out which verifies this. It appears that after Trump stopped the attack on Iran following their shooting down of the US drone, Bolton demanded that they at least kill Soleimani. Trump said no and that he would only agree to such a thing if they killed an American. As people will know Trump got rid of Bolton because of his continued efforts to get war going with Iran. Bolton of course has now said he would be interested in speaking about Trump's impeachment and Pompeo (where did he get that name?) has the same delight at the idea of war with Iran. One thing is however different. When they assassinated Soleimani they also failed in an assassination attempt against Abdul Reza Shahlai in Yemen. Who changed it? I know some people have suggested that Trump is now owned by the extreme and not really in a position to make his own choices re impeachment - that would be owned by people like Pompeo, Pence etc.

It also is worth pointing out that the had suffered many attacks last year blamed in Iraq blamed on Israel/US.

Iraq Blames Israel for Attacks on Popular Mobilization Forces’ Military Bases

Iraq Vows to ‘Deter Aggressors’ after Attacks against PMF

I would say it has to be a possibility that those attacks are what led to the American being killed.

    Thoughts?

That all sounds plausible to me.

A possible theory is that the Deep State individuals within Trump's administration, Pompeo, Barr, Bolton and likely others, set Trump up to kill Soleimani so that he would be seen as a loose cannon idiot, which he is, and thus provide more fuel for the impeachment fire.

I read elsewhere as well that Iraq needed to rebuild its country that we destroyed, and Washington refused to do so unless it was given 50% of the oil profits and they said no and went to China. I thought Donald Trump with his hubris, would be able to fight the 'swamp', but I guess his morality wasn't up to it so he joined them. This is from your link:

“This is why I (Abdul Mahdi) visited China and signed an important agreement with them to undertake the construction instead. Upon my return, Trump called me to ask me to reject this agreement. When I refused, he threatened to unleash huge demonstrations against me that would end my premiership.

Huge demonstrations against me duly materialized and Trump called again to threaten that if I did not comply with his demands, then he would have Marine snipers on tall buildings target protesters and security personnel alike in order to pressure me.

I refused again and handed in my resignation. To this day the Americans insist on us rescinding our deal with the Chinese.

After this, when our Minister of Defense publicly stated that a third party was targeting both protestors and security personnel alike (just as Trump had threatened, he would do), I received a new call from Trump threatening to kill both me and the Minister of Defense if we kept on talking about this “third party”.

I was supposed to meet him [Soleimani] later in the morning when he was killed. He came to deliver a message from Iran in response to the message we had delivered to the Iranians from the Saudis.

The Kingdom’s statement regarding the events in Iraq stresses the Kingdom’s view of the importance of de-escalation to save the countries of the region and their people from the risks of any escalation.

The kingdom of Saudi Arabia was not consulted regarding the US strike. In light of the rapid developments, the Kingdom stresses the importance of exercising restraint to guard against all acts that may lead to escalation, with severe consequences.

Saudi Arabia is sending a delegation to Washington to urge restraint with Iran on behalf of [Persian] Gulf states. The message will be: ‘Please spare us the pain of going through another war’.”
I don't think American Marine snipers would have been used, but rather foreign ones like at Maidan. One was Lithuanian and the others were Georgians.

Except we had nothing to do with Maidan. That is Russian propaganda and disinformation.

No additional thoughts. I think you summed it up well enough.

    I can:

"Information has come to light that indicts the United States not just for the Soleimani killing but also for the over 300 killings during the Iraqi protests in late 2019."

"In fact, it can be proven that the United States not only organized the protests but also is responsible for killing protestors as well, hundreds of them, something we have seen before, Maidan in 2014, Libya in 2011 and Cairo in 2009."

"In each event, the killings of protestors lead to regime change favorable to the US. Though evidence of false flag snipers in Maidan is overwhelming, this is the first real “smoking gun” that clearly establishes the US military as a terrorist organization."

Oh, then Nuland wasn't choosing the president of Ukraine when she told Pyatt that 'Yats' is the man'!

It is not propaganda that the putch began when Yanukovich decided not to take the European offer and went with Russia's, which was a better deal for Ukraine.

Durandel - The phone call was not Russian propaganda, but I'm sure it was taped by Russia and released to the world by Russia. That's how they work. As Putin said, the FSB is an Intelligence gathering agency, and when they find it politically expedient, they release what they have. Anyway, that's what I noticed.

Of course not. Ukrainian voters choose their president.

What does any of that have to do with your false accusation regarding Maidan? You may feel that the Russian deal was better for Ukraine, but that doesn't mean the Ukrainians felt that way.

The Russian deal was objectively better than the European association one.

The putch rode on the back of the Maiden protests, turning them violent and overthrowing the government.

But you know all that and I don't feel like revisiting 2014 to prove you wrong again. Let's stick to what is happening in Iraq now, whether you see the similarities or not.

Sounds to me like you're inserting a little pro-Russian fantasy into the plain reality of the Maidan protests and the subsequent ouster of Putin's Ukrainian puppet. Do you ever critically examine this fake news you seem to consume on a regular basis?

When Yanukovich realized that the losses would not be something like 30 billion if they joined the EU, but more like 150 billion he asked the EU to help. They told him no, and to go to the IMF. The IMF wanted to cut the social services about 70% and double or triple the cost of gas and he couldn't do that to the people.

The problem was Russia. Moscow had given Ukraine beneficial trade deals and if they joined the EU, the European goods would be coming in through Ukraine so Russia would have to stop them. Putin wanted to talk to the EU about it, but they refused.

Durandal let me ask you something, what is the gain in deceiving the American people and convincing them that black is white, and white is black? They did that in the Soviet Union to take over the government and steal the wealth and they killed millions in the process. In a few years they were all dead, and in 70 years the Soviet Union was dead as well. Do you think the new world order will fare any better? I don't!

Never judge a tree by its stature,
nor the power and the name it wears.
    Judgement should only come,
from the merits of the fruit it bears.

Speaking of the Soviet Union, that's how Russia learned to manipulate people so well and convince them that black is white and yadda yadda. They've even got you imagining that the US doing the very thing that they have been doing. Amazing.

It was the Western Ukrainians that supported the coup. They were looking at Poland, and though they would prosper if they joined the EU. What they didn't know was that Poland was given $150 billion which the EU and the US didn't have. Poland also supported the coup in Ukraine with the hope that if they joined the EU, they would be compensated for the lands Ukraine grabbed in WWII.

The Galatians in Western Ukraine also wanted to work in the EU, not realizing that the EU didn't want anymore people from Eastern Europe. They preferred Syrians. Also if they had done their homework they would have seen what the IMF did to Greece, and how the Greeks never benefitted from the money. Instead the money went right back to Germany - probably with the intent to buy up it's assets like in Ukraine. The IMF is nothing but a racket.

    Flipping again!

Ukrainians largely supported the ouster of Putin's puppet and the subsequent reforms to do away with corruption, and Russia is the longtime source of corruption in Ukraine. The USSR made it the corrupt mess that it had become and Russia was only helping keep it that way, because that made Ukraine easier to control. Putin and his cronies are undoubtedly a little sore that the Ukrainians have broken free of their influence despite their best efforts and, most worrying for them, threaten to bring NATO that much closer to Moscow. They took Crimea and turned eastern Ukraine into a separatist mess not unlike Transnistria in Moldova, all through the power of their active measures.

Now, I'm not surprised in the least if Poland supported Ukraine's little Maidan revolution. They've had little love for the Russians in the wake of Soviet imperial domination of their country. Funny how all of the former satellites tend to feel the same way, isn't it? Funny, too, how agitators won't quit trying to blame the Kremlin's misdeeds on the West despite the supposed demise of the Soviet Union, and how Russia's leader-for-life, who of course was a career KGB officer, openly regrets the collapse of that terrible regime. But I digress.

Of course Ukrainians would appreciate the opportunity to work in the EU. If you've ever seen what it is like for them at home, I think you would appreciate that. Their poverty often puts even the worst parts of 'Murica to shame. It's another common theme in former Soviet republics, where they never or only more slowly developed the tools -- political, mental or actual -- necessary to have a thriving modern economy, and they sure aren't going to get those from Russia, another country suffering from the same ill effects of decades of Communism. Those economies more open to the West have quite naturally seen marked improvements and are doing much better than Putin's Russia and the former satellites they have been able to keep corrupt and under their thumb for so long. As I'm sure I've told you before, I've seen it. Even Kiev had hole-in-the-ground public toilets when I was there 10 years ago, and they were still living in plenty of slummy old Soviet-era apartment buildings that look like they were pieced together from a scrapyard.

I love your spin. Actually the mafias in Ukraine were panicky that Vladimir Putin might have mustered control over Ukraine and they would have ended up like the ones in Russia, who ran off to Britain without paying their taxes, and are now so fearful they're clamoring to get back.

The Ukrainian people were fooled big time, and the sociopaths who fooled them, must be quite proud of themselves. That's part of the criminal mentality you know, priding oneself on deceiving and manipulating others.

Here is Max Kaisar on Russia's economy. He said it is bulletproof - which means Washington can't touch them so give it up Durandal. You're convincing no one.

    Trump fans, take note

The Ukrainians are done being Putin's fools, however. The Ukrainians want freedom and democracy, not more of Putin's brand of corruption and fake democracy, and all of the poverty and misery that it brings.
