Good point. The only advantage either of them have is how awful the other is!

Although I’m fixed on the upcoming midterms. I’ll say this about a 2024 Trump run for the presidency. I think the Republican Party needs to realize they’re still the smaller of the two major parties. Hence to win the presidency, their candidate must win the independent vote. Now independents don’t like Trump much. They voted against Trump or for Biden in 2020 by a 54-41 margin. Today, most independents have placed Trump into the ancient history category, their dislike or unfavorable rating for Trump has declined from 60% Nov 2020 down to 54% today as Trump has stayed in the background. Away from the cameras. But I think given a week or two in front of the cameras campaigning for the presidency, that will bring back the memories of why they, independents disliked Trump so much as he once again goes into his name calling and throwing temper tantrum mode along with his schoolyard bullying tactics and very unpresidential behavior all around.

Speculation on my part, yes. But going by the numbers, not the heart or wants and wishes, I highly doubt Trump could ever again win the independent vote which is a must for any Republican to win nationwide.

I really hope he doesn’t. The GOP needs to start playing identity politics
I’m sure we could find a black trans candidate with the same common sense policies trump was pushing .

There we go. He was better than biden, but still an awful excuse for a man and worse for a politician. He's doing this for himself, not for the rest of us who just want a sane and respectable leader. Not someone who says the dumb **** either of those two barks out.

I think you didn't see my request for evidence.
So to help you, have you got examples from the golden year of 1941 that indicates how individual liberties were at their apotheosis, and how Americans became sheep in subsequent years?
Presumably in terms of, say, a dozen strands of individual liberty that have been legislated away, any examples?

Yeah, my post you had a problem with. Young Americans willing to go off to war to protect our country from authoritarian ideologies that destroy individual liberties.

As far as individual liberties lost, read the thousands of pages of bureaucratic regulations issued every year. I have no intention of doing your research for you, do it yourself.

Young Americans joined the war simply because Germany declared war on America.
The bureaucratic regulations introduced since 1941 have increased individual liberties everywhere in American life. I have researched it.

I've researched it too and have come to a different conclusion.

    https://thenewamerican.com/code-of-federal-regulations-30-miles-of-paper/
Code of Federal Regulations: 30 Miles of Paper

"Liberty in the United States today is not under attack from one, single identifiable despot, but from hundreds of federal agencies and commissions, each of which is permitted by the president to exercise immense legislative, executive, and judicial power.

In this as in almost every other case of the slow suffocation of liberty under reams of paper pushed out onto the people by petty tyrants, history is a reliable guide to understanding the problem."

    We differ.
Still at least the trajectory of ambition is to go back 81 years.
I mean let’s face it the arrival of the British creation of the World Wide Web has restricted liberty rather than massively increased it wouldn’t you say?

The party leadership needs to be replaced by new leaders supported by the party base.

A pet rock would be a huge improvement over Trump on every issue. At least a pet rock doesn't try to reverse elections and install itself as an unelected autocrat.

I guess that is a possibility. But the RNC must know that all they need to do to win in 2024 is to run a warm body other than Trump.

Wow pretty quiet in here for this topic. The Putin love really sucked the air out of the Trump folks it seems.

A month ago it would have been "YEAH here comes your worst nightmare *******s!".

Now it's like "cool.. uh.. maybe not.."

Yup - conservative Christian brains will fizzle.
Tulsi is a Vegan and a Hindu ... conservatives would crap their pants.

I like Tulsi - but conservatives would NEVER go for a non-Christian on the ticket.

I don't think that matters. The presidential election is a bit less than 3 years off. I highly doubt Biden will be running for reelection. Obama had dropped to a 44% approval from independents in Feb 2010, he dropped to 34% Oct 2011 and still won reelection in Nov 2012 by 4 points over Romney. By Nov 2012 Obama had climbed back to 53% approval from independents.

Today’s approval/disapproval means nothing for 2024. Plenty of time for a rebound if Biden does decide to run for reelection as proven by Obama. Now when talking about the midterms, it’s becoming important as we draw closer.

With Trump, he was unique in that independents hadn’t wavered much in their favorable/unfavorable rating of him over the last 5 years. 57% unfavorable 2018, 58% unfavorable 2018, 60% unfavorable 2020. His 54% unfavorable today is the best Trump has had since he won back in 2016. But Trump hasn’t been front and centered to remind independents why they disliked him so. Give him a week or two in front of the cameras, they’ll remember.

I think what Republicans in general, Trump supporters in particular don't understand. It wasn't Trump's politicies that defeated him. It was his personality, his behavior, his childish antics and schoolyard bullying tactics. History has shown folks usually won't vote for someone they dislike. If the GOP can come up with a fresh young face with the same policies, I'd say they probably will have a winner. But not with Trump. He's too disliked as a person. People think I'm nuts when I talk about likeability, but it plays a major part in how the non-affiliated, less to non-partisan, swing voters vote.
