The truly sad part of this story is I could see Trump running with this idea at his upcoming rallies. Trump has a shallow play book and this is just his rebranding of the "Mexico will pay for the wall" idea. He just went a 100X bigger and now it will be "China will pay for covid" and his supporters will be ecstatic. "Make China Pay", Make China Pay".

We overestimate Trump's popularity, and regardless of the power he has over his groupies, his is a powerless man facing long expensive legal battles. I think his mind is shot. Hey, from listening to Trumpers, I thought covid was no more dangerous than the flu. Why should China pay $10 trillion for releasing a novel virus that is just like the flu? Donald Trump owes the American people for his gross incompetence, like when he initially knew about how deadly this virus was but chose to ignore it and call it a "hoax," claiming that his best buddy Xi had it under control.
