It was definately an insurrection plot. We have two versions of written outlines regarding how it was going to be executed.

The mob was recruited by Trump, Bannon, and the right wing noise machine to be assembled to intimidate Congress into dithering and allowing the fake electors to create chaos in Congress, in the hope that the election would go to state legislators. This was almost certainly Roger Stone’s doing. He was behind the infamous “Brooks Brothers riot” of 2000, which intimidated Miami-Dade election workers into stopping the vote recount.

There is no doubt that the mob on Jan 6th was intent on playing its part in an overthrow of the government. They all knew that their objective was to prevent the certification of the election. They were amped up by a relentless right wing media campaign asserting non existent vote fraud in multiple states. No evidence has ever been produced to back up any of these claims.

The mob didn’t need a lot of guns to overrun the Capitol. So your emphasis on this is irrelevant.

This was pre planned, part of a larger scheme, and it was not peaceful.

Why would Trump need people to disrupt the certification process if he's just going to introduce alternate electors? There's no need to interrupt the certification in order to introduce alternate electors. So why do it? In fact interrupting the certification would impede upon the process of introducing alternate electors.

Furthermore introducing alternate electors at that point is what the ECA REQUIRES so it's not illegal and there's no need to interrupt the certification to do so. So I'll ask again, why would he do that?
