    http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2016/05/16/how-donald-trump-appeals-to-the-white-working-class

    -----------------

I normally don't post full articles when I quote a source, but I'm more than willing to make an exception in this case as every word rings true. From the description of Trump as "a celebrity proto-fascist with no impulse control" to the observation that "Conservative orthodoxy, already weakened by its own extremism—the latest, least appealing standard-bearer was Ted Cruz—has suffered a stunning defeat from within. And Trump has replaced it with something more dangerous: white identity politics."

    Packer nailed it.

All you Trump fan-boys can deny it until you're blue in the face (lol), but it's a fact: "This election has everything to do with race." That's a quote from one of our more vocal righties, who said that to me a couple of weeks ago in a PM. I didn't want to believe it, given all the complex issues and challenges presently facing the U.S. But it has been made abundantly clear by the obsession with race right here and by the crowds at Trump's rallies. You may couch in terms of your hatred of Obama, you can decry Hillary cozying up to minorities, you can claim it's all about sticking it to the Establishment, and so on. But the adoration of Trump comes down to one thing...and one thing only: One last hurrah for white supremacy.

My advice is to enjoy it while it lasts, boys, because come November, you'll be exactly where you were in 2008 and 2012, and, more than likely, for a long, long time to come.

Welcome to America. There's no going back.

Actually, Packer seems a lot more sympathetic to "white fright" than I am.

He seems to think it has more to do with a sense of despair and betrayal by the right.

I believe it's more a sense of entitlement and good old ignorance.

Or....it could just be a simple case of

"People with big egos flock around people with even bigger egos."

    No?

    I don't think that's quite it.

Ego doesn't explain the hate, anger, fear and mind-numbing stupidity of Trump supporters, for one thing.

I can prove it, if you like, but I'm not going to risk a ban over it.

And LOL...that's the best you can do? How about addressing the issues Packer raised?

Oh, that's right...you lack the wits to do so.

Whatever, dude. Once again, you're putting your ignorance on public display. I'm guessing he doesn't post in this thread, though. So maybe you'll be able to figure it out by process of elimination.

Any other thoughts about the OP?

    I didn't think so.

Guess I've been using a different algorithm then yours.

    Mine is more like.... [stupidity(hate+anger)]=Fear

And nothing can be more fearful than an ego.

I mean what can be more full of fear than an ego.

    Or something like that........

    Interesting. I never considered that.

I'm not a psychologist (nor do I play one on TV), but my problem is: People with large, intact egos typically don't display the blind hero worship that's so obvious among Trump's followers, do they?

Ever been to a Packer game?
    Just kidding...

It seems that in this society, if you can't be a winner
then you damn well better be on the on the winning team.

Does it matter at all if the republican candidate qualified for his job?
Or is it just important that he win?

I know the answer to that one!

Winning is everything to Trump's Troops. It's like their lives depend on it.

Most can't even entertain the possibility of him losing.

It's predicted that Trump will be the first Republican to win the Rust Belt for the first time since Reagan

How funny, Obamabots acted exactly the same way in 2008.

It's one heck of a lot easier to be noble and condescending when you have a paycheck to feed your family.

The only person I'm worried about is Sundance.

He's going to take Trump's rout really badly, I fear.

Agreed. The author touched on this when mentioning white males see themselves in Trump. A case of wannabe-ism, as I see it. Call it the name dropper syndrome if you will.

"People will identify with that which makes them feel safe."
If you think that having lots of money
would somehow make you feel safe,
then it is logical that Mr. Trump
    would be your hero.

Hi Zeus! :) I think Sundance will be just fine, it's all of the other maniacs out there I'm worried about. Both Conventions look like they could be wild and the zealots on both sides will go crazy if their candidate loses. If Hillary wins are you going to throw a party? and if she loses do you have a Donald trump dart board ready? Lol
