I was just about to respond to Loser when I saw your post. True, very true. Unlike LBJ, Goldwater was a big supporter of civil rights. My reasons for wondering why anyone would register as a Democrat is because it implies they want a Democracy (which, of course, is not in the Constitution nor should it be) and they were historically pro-slavery.
I never said the Democrats were pure. I'm talking about the fact that it was recognized throughout the U.S that it was the Modern Democrat Party that pushed for and passed the far reaching Civil Rights Bill of 1964. Thats why Johnson won 94% of the African American vote against Goldwater. And that the Modern day Republicans realizing this exploited the South for white votes. The Southern Strategy was very successful at converting what was at the time a more racist oriented south to the Republicans. Eventually the South became firmly in control of the Republicans So congratulations. And by the way whether you like him or not. It's no coincidence that the first African American elected President came from the Democrats.
President Richard Nixon's "Southern Strategy" was an effort on the part of Nixon to get Christians in the South to stop voting for Democrats who did not share their values and were still discriminating against their fellow Christians who happened to be black. You really should stop drinking the Kool-Aid. BTW, remember when in 1967 LBJ showed his anger with Dr. King's protest against the Vietnam War by referring to Dr. King as "that (*)(*)(*)(*)(*)(*) preacher?" I didn't think you did. Blacks have been duped into voting for Democrats and as a result they're still living on the plantation. Congratulations.
The Democrat Party never pushed for it, they just finally gave in to the Republicans who had fought for over 150 years to pass it. No the Democrats exploited their loss by promising free this and free that. It succeeded by giving mostly the young Southerns who rejected segregation and those migrating from the north who had opposed segregation somewhere to go. And in between Jimmy Carter a pro-civil rights Democrat swept the South in his election. Because they are still the race based party and still play upon it.
Do you folks honestly think had Dr. King not been murdered he would have voted for Strom Thurmond, Jesse Helms, Ronald Reagan, Phill Gramm, George Bush 41 or 43, Trent Lott, John McCain, Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, etc. Do you really think Dr. King would agree with the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Neal Boortz, Sean Hannity, Eric Ericsson, etc. Do you really think Dr. King would back a cat like Herman Cain. Do you think he would agree with Cain that if you are not rich its your fault. If you answered yes to any of the above, you don't have a clue as to who Dr. King was.
Today's Republican party dances to the same piper as today's Democratic party. They both serve the same agenda. I can prove it if you'd like.
Too funny, liberals today just seethe at the notion that Abraham Lincoln was a republican, our first actually. I know that gets them when this subject comes up, and they use that same old, "well things were different then". No, they are the same, and it is a lie that the left loons classify all conservatives as being racist. Watching these loons attack Cain will bring out their true racist colors.
Why is it Republicans always look back decades ago when they are discussing their civil rights record? How come they don't discuss the various comments their leaders make today? I thought we established that parties and people change. What is the track record of the Republican party this month? This year? This decade? Any thoughts?
More Democrats voted for it than against it. If Democrats had voted against it en masse it wouldn't have passed. I thought they were and have been the racist party? It seems what your argument boils down to, and sounds rather odd considering that they are the party of the first black President. Also, if they did have said first black President why are they automatically the race-based party? How exactly did you move from A to B here? Do you have a (*)(*)(*)(*)ty argument generator or do you come up with these all by yourself?
Now that is what I am talking about. Its sad that the Repub Party has to go all the way back to the Civil Rights Movement or Civil War to talk about their record with black folks.
The parties "switched" the moment LBJ signed the Civil Rights Act. The idea that there are conservatives here that think MLK and Lincoln would be Republicans today because they were Republicans way back when is asinine.
".. You can't talk about ending the slums without first saying profit must be taken out of slums. .....it really means that ... something is wrong... with capitalism.... There must be a better distribution of wealth and maybe America must move toward a democratic socialism". -Martin Luther King Jr:
When it comes to most Hispanics and blacks, The Democrats often practice the "soft bigotry" of low expectations. Is it any wonder then that the high school dropout rate for these groups is very high and the unemployment rate among young black and Hispanic males has increased under Obama's policies to the unacceptable range of 18 to 20%?
Hate to say it but most have been trained to vote for the candidate who gives them the most handouts. I seriously doubt any honest person will deny that. The problem is there is no free lunch and someone has to pay.
It's hard to have such high expectations for people who live in poverty like that. It can't be easy to overcome the vicious cycle of poverty.
They haven't been "trained." It's foolish and condescending to just say they've been brainwashed or something. Also the "free lunch" is a myth. Even if you don't pay an income tax you pay sales tax, social security, medicare taxes, etc.
An opinion. A poor one at that. It's actually 16.3%. I'd prefer you don't post lies and report them as facts. Thanks.
