I don't normally read the New York Times, but I did come across this article. It really makes the Russian troll army seem less like pathetic fools and instead criminals. I don't understand how people so fear the truth, even if it is not positive to one's state, that they have to go online, lie and harass & threaten people. It's so dishonourable.

You don't understand anything. Do you really think Russians care that much about some Finish journalist? I didn't knew about her existence untill this very day. And I follow western news much more closely than average Russian. There is at least one exposed 3-storey office in the suburbs of Saint Petersburg where people are working in 3 shifts posting comments online. One worker is supposed to leave 100 comments every shift.
It seems best to simply know they are there, who they are, use them as entertainment, and eventually go on to the inevitable ignoring mindset. They are not going away so, make the best of it....they do no actual harm and have no idea how they accomplish the opposite of the intended.

That's funny if true, because the same thing is going on in the US. I don't avoid the MSM because the lies make me sick to my stomach, but I have been told that it's almost impossible to write something positive or the truth about Russia without getting some filthy responses.

This thread is specifically talking about paid trolls, your comment said "Got it served back to them". This implies you think the Westerners are running a troll army and now Russia is competing back. You guys are free to believe all you want that there are Western Trolls. But cant deny Russia has a legion of them
so what? show us these legions then, or at least go & get hired as a Russian troll, to prove their network does exist.
So when they are pro Russian posters they a "paid trolls", but if theyou are pro western posters than they are not. Am I getting this right? Loki and Destroyer might be the exception, but for the most part, pro western posters on this forum are much more trollish and abrasive. Just look at how many western "trolls" flood pro Russian threads.

Russian Trolls, Israeli Trolls, American Trolls, Chinese Trolls, etc. If anyone thinks that major nations are not using the internet to wage a vicious propaganda war, then they are at at least naive if not dumber than a bag of hammers. Its not like they are hard to spot and the content of their reactions and attacks are long on denial, distortion, derision and aggression and damn short on facts. According to most of them Stalin was an amiable chap. What I find amusing is that some of these people actually believe themselves.
Both have legions of Trolls. The war of the 21st century is for control of the minds of "we the people". The Soviet Union and other communist systems such as China wrote the book. What concerns me is that the USA is now reading from that book. The Oligopoly-Bureaucracy Fusion Monster that runs this country is a propaganda machine.
That may be so, but the article that this thread was based on focussed on the harassment of a Finnish journalist by Russian and pro-Russian bloggers and other agents. It's remarkable for it's audacity.
