Denmark v Finland to restart in the next 15 mins after it was suspended due to the collapse and hospitalisation of Christian Erikson.
Has it restarted? On US TV the channel that was showing Denmark vs Finland moved on to other programming. I'm trying to find a way to finish watching that game on split screen with Belgium vs Russia. ------ Never mind, I found it, it's on ESPN2
Denmark need better finishing. Lots of possession, lots of tippy tappy around the outside but very few real chances.
Poor penalty decision against Finland. Looked like a dive to me. Saved by the goalie which is a fair result IMO.
Tough game to start the tournament for England. World Cup runners up Croatia. A young England team against the veterans of Croatia. England have never won their opening game in the Euros before but they have never lost a major championship game at Wembley. I've got my cross of St George flying out my window.
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more; Cry 'God for Harry Caine, England, and Saint George!'
Yes, beautiful pass from Leeds Utd's Phillips to Sterling in the box. Sterling doesn't miss chances like that. 1-0 England.
England 1-0 Croatia, full time. I'm not highly impressed with England. After a hot start, for a while they didn't seem to be able to exploit Croatia's weaknesses and weren't doing much on the field. Anyway, well-deserved victory, by the minimum score. The goal score they had was nicely orchestrated. The veterans from Croatia were pretty anemic; this is no longer that surprising team from the 2018 World Cup. I was disappointed that one of my idols, Rebic who plays for my club AC Milan, wasn't stellar. Congratulations to Montegriffo and England fans for their opening victory.
Competent win for England. Dominant in possession for long periods of the game. Calvin Phillips was the best man on the pitch today.
Croatia, they wanted to spoil England's day But Sterling, he made their hopes go away Phillips of Leeds was the best on the pitch Modric of Madrid was made England's bitch The Jocks are up next and England they hate It's their first major tourney since France '98 They're starting to wonder in Paris and Rome Is this the year that football comes home?
The Netherlands take the lead against Ukraine after 53 mins. A win for the Dutch will be a good result on their return to major championships. Most pundits were backing Ukraine to win this.
Cracking game. Ukraine equalised on 75 mins then NL score with 5 mins to go. Final score 3-2 to the Dutch.
Scotland up next. First major championships since France '98. Up against the Czech Republic. Leigeas Alba.
Best game of the weekend, by far. A lot of the matches were ruined by the sandbagging of teams like Turkey, Russia, and to my dismay, Croatia and Wales. Hats off to Italy, Belgium and the Dutch. I'm glad England won and Sterling got that tournament monkey off his back, but they'd better find their scoring touch before the knockout round.
We got a regular bard here. Poor Luka. Croatia was sandbagging so hard I thought he was playing backfield. I definitely fell of their bandwagon Sunday...
This often happens in the group stages. Teams are so frightened of losing they just park the bus and hope to score on a breakaway goal. Same can happen in the knockout rounds too with teams whose best chance is to shut down the game and hope they can win on penalties. Not many teams play the beautiful game anymore.
