I'm tired of the idea of race. I wish everyone could forget about their stupid made up race. Why is people's identities so wrapped up in something so dumb. I couldn't care less about race, I don't care about your history, ancestory or whatever. Why does it matter? Genetically, capability and intelligence is pretty constant throughout humanity is a constant. So we're all exactly the same, right? So if there isn't any difference the idea what we are different is moronic. So why not just drop the concept of race and be done with it? The way I see it is that we're all exactly the same and so race doesn't exist. To me the idea of race is as silly as "brown eyes over this is completely different to blue and green eyes". My point is if we are the same why are we still hanging on to the idea race? Also if certain group's are different (which they are not), statistically certain groups could be considered "superior" due to favourable genetics . Which would support the idea racism is justified and simply reality. It wouldn't be good or bad, it would simply be what is. So I guess the idea of race is a racist idea.
I know what you mean. As long as there are different races we will have to live with prejudices. Perhaps in another thousand years or so there will only be one race one earth and racism will only be printed in history books.
In my opinion a large portion of racists are not actually racists in the classic sense. I believe many are what I call "culturally intolerant". People generally do not like people who act or dress or talk differently. For example they may hate a black guy, not because of his skin color but because maybe he is walking funny or his pants are hanging below his ass. They would have the same reaction if he was white and walking funny or his pants were to low. People that grow up in small towns with little diversity expect people to act a certain way and cultural differences can be viewed in an unfavorable light. (To put it lightly). This is why I believe this type of intolerance is more prevalent in smaller rural republican areas. People that grow up in larger metropliton areas are used to many different cultures so are more likely to take it in stride. Anyhow, I ramble but that is my two cents.
In this day and age to be "color blind" and view people on merit rather then skin color is considered racist. So yep its pretty irritating
Exactly. I see color, I just don't care about it. Are you a decent human being, treat children, old people and animals with care and respect? That's all that should matter.
I often find myself not even realising a persons colour. For instance I had a black neighbor for over 10 years which I was very friendly with and talked to on a daily bases. It only occured to me recently his colour when someone mentioned "the black man next door to where you used to live " , I had to think to myself "black man next door? Oh he black. I didn't even notice !" I across a similar realisation. I had a friend that I've known over 5 years, i saw their post on Facebook about the being "black". Even though they obviously were, somehow I didn't even notice. A few months ago someone was telling me a story about when they got called a "paki". I was utterly confused and the person literally had to explain to my they got called it because they are Indian. I don't know if it's my lack of observation, stupidity or my unconscious mind not seeing race is causing this to happen. I often just see a person as an individual and nothing more. It's hard to explain, I guess it's how a child hasn't been conditioned to see race yet. I just sometimes don't see race. I guess it's why I get infuriated by race politics because it challenges my belief we are all exactly the same but uniquely beautiful and interesting individuals. The idea of attempting to group and categories just seems perverse to me. Like what's so wrong with reality that we are all one?
People find all kinds of reasons to hate others. Race is just one of the reasons. Some people can only feel good about themselves when they can label someone else as being the enemy. It's really sad.
There was a famous experiment where a professor at a college conducted an experiment in his class where he made the argument that blue eyed people were inherently more intelligent than brown eyed people (he had no data to support this, and knew that it was not true, but that was the experiment) and was able to convince a large majority of the class that what he was saying was fact because many wanted it to be fact. Humans will always find a way to be bigoted, they don't need skin color, just an excuse to hate.
That would imply bigotry is simply part of human nature and something we have no control over. If that's the case why would bigotry be considered evil? as it would simple just our nature and something we have no control over? And If we have a primal need to categories and hate how would it be possible to eradicate? Personally I'm optimistic and believe it's simply taught the key is to not be conditioned to see differences
This is the solution. The idea of race is simply put there to divide people and condition them to hate.
I wish we could all forget about race too. But, I doubt if that happens any time soon---especially not in the USA.
Well it makes no sense to me. So I will let Oprah's team explain. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.op...ips-love/amp32824297/color-blind-myth-racism/ I think the thinking is... if a white person measures all people including minorities according to actions, character and merit...they can't at the same time consider minorities automatic victims and they can't see themselves part of a problem...because of course that same person is ignoring their own color. So....they are racist.
There was this war in 1940-1945 that basically was about the theme of superior and non superior people, and the one making room for the other. It did not end well. And we consider those idea's as bad, generally speaking. Few disagree and that is alright. The experiment was held on young kids that still believe in father Christmas. It's part of human nature to rise above it, and break away from the indoctrination.
We've tried ignoring race before. But it doesn't work because what happens instead is we lose the language to talk about racial injustices. It's all lives matter vs. the police in Ferguson engaged in a pattern of racial injustice by keeping people indebted to a predatory state. Why reform the entire system when you just have strip the language of racial injustices?
Sounds far more to me that people are fine with racial injustice when it doesn't bother them. But get annoyed that they might be part of or benefitting from racial injustice. Like you kind of know you got a easy way to end up at the front of the line, to than get told we're going to even out the playing field and you're nothing special, and see a 100 million people who stood behind you suddenly in front of you. Like a hippy chanting sweet sweet songs around a tree in a nice spring weather, to than get told... we're going to take down that General Lee statue. It's offensive. You know it is. You don't care. You want that privilege, that you do not get anymore. And it's no tree, and you're no hippy.. but part of a problem.
It's a lovely notion. And I'm sure those who have experienced oppression anywhere in the world because of their race would LOVE to say that they're over it, or that the notion annoys them too. They don't, however, have that luxury.
It's such a shame innit! We are all essentially exactly the same. I think it's terrible that every side seems to be so hell bent on adding fuel to the fire and keeping racism alive.
