Well, me & a couple of friends went to catch an advance screening of the new Evil Dead last night. I was thoroughly impressed. Any of you horror movie folks from the other thread will really enjoy this... Here's me & a buddy's collaborative, spoiler-free review that we have up on a couple of websites... Or are supposed to anyway...lol
I've seen the ad a few times. The part with the little girl peaking out from under the door "we're gonna get you"... with those eyes. Instant heeby jeebies... I was suspicious of my own basement door for a bit.
Good to hear the good review. I am a fan and was worried about the new movie. The tomatometer gave it a 81% http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/the_evil_dead_2013/
And movies very rarely get a good rating on Rotten Tomatoes... Just one more indicator that folks need to go see it Friday... Or, in my case, go see it again on Thursday night...lol
"Good?....Bad?....I'm the one with the gun" (Yeah, I know that's "Army of Darkness") Sorry...no Bruce Campbell so I refuse it.
He & Sam Raimi were two of the developers... Plus, they're rebooting Army of Darkness, and, that will have Bruce Campbell... Then, after the sequels to both are released, Fede Alvarez (producer of the remake), Raimi, & Campbell are supposed to be working on a movie to bridge the two stories...
An Army of Darkness sequel too? I did see Evil Dead last weekend and I did enjoy it. I'm glad they didn't just take out the old script and air it out; they actually took the plot in a different direction than the original.
Yup... At least that's the plan, as I've heard it so far... I'm having trouble finding the article, but, they said they were considering two ea. of Evil Dead, and Army of Darkness, then a movie to bridge the two...
Apparently, a lot of my friends feel the same way you do. I still refuse to see this based on principle, though. Dear Hollywood, no more remakes. Find some originality. If it's all been done, then just retire the movie industry and call it a day.
Eh, I don't think it's so much that there's nothing new to make a movie about... I think, with horror franchises, it's guys who love the originals, and want to put their own spin on it... Like the Friday the 13th, Noghtmare on Elm Street, and Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot... They were done really well... A lot of people hate them though, I think, for nostalgia's sake... Personally, I'd rather see a well done reboot than some of the crap that's getting spewed out of Hollywood lately...
Texas Chainsaw Massacre was good. I'll give you that. But the rest are a waste of my time. Against all better judgment, I actually had decent hopes for Nightmare on Elm Street just because I thought they cast the perfect guy for the role of Freddy. But even that ended up sucking. Just leave the classics alone. Think of it like if every new music artist that came out today, instead of writing and recording their own music, just remade classic albums. And you had all these stupid cover albums clogging up the industry. It wouldn't suck, wouldn't it? I don't want to hear Macklemore doing the Chronic or Drake doing Mama Said Knock You Out. I think I'd probably delete the entire internet.
While I don't really agree that classics should be left untouched, and I think that paying homage to originals is (sometimes) a good thing, the second part of your post is ROFLcopter!!! LOL
Egad! I just read what I wrote. That was supposed to say, "would suck." Apparently my Freudian side has a different opinion. Perhaps deep down inside somewhere, I have a deeply repressed longing to hear Psy do Dark Side of the Moon. "Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey sexy ladies.......... the lunatic is on the grass!" *does the invisible horse and lasso dance*
That's what they're saying so far... He pops up after the credits for Evil Dead too, but only for a second...
I haven't seen Evil Dead (hope they only remade and butchered the floppy Army of Darkness and not ED2), but I just watched the Oblivion. Of course they had to rip off the Legend, Space Odyssey, Aliens, and even Saturn 3 damn bastards, with those bumble bee bubble craft and 2 lovers stranded at some isolated outpost theme. They may have even ripped off the Timecop with Van Damme. Even the acting was unnatural and mimmicked, especially impersonating Lilly in 'The Legend' to the point of irritation. Whereas Lilly in 'The Legend' acted natural and graceful, the Lilly in 'Oblivion' appeared to tell the viewers - look at me, I am so mysterious and sophisticated, and look into my eyes, how I can change their expression from terror to laughter and then to fascination in a matter of 0.0387 seconds (tri-polar?). Tom Cruise too, you could tell right away he's some kind of an android with how he is constantly scanning his environment. My viewing experience of zee Hollywood flicks is that of sheer horror, having to swallow how they combine their own airhead ideas and shallow plots deprived of any originality with themes and elements shamelessly ripped off from zee timeless classics.
'how they combine their own airhead ideas and shallow plots deprived of any originality' Self-contradiction noted.
