All this talk about how they can shape destiny and how they are able to influence everything. I see a lot of biased for both parties. But my question is how much pull does the media actually have. One of my friends believe that the media actually determines who wins elections on the local, state, and national elections.
if you added up the viewership of Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC, it would only equally a small fraction of the US population (and there is a good bit of overlapping viewers between the 3 stations to). most people don't care, and so only about 60% (usually less) ever vote in even presidential elections.
They absolutely shape what we talk about and there is heavy collusion on the left. (GOOGLE: "JOURNOLIST") Why do you think it is that the 3 bigs (ABC, NBC, CBS) cover virtually the same stories each and every night and almost in the exact same order? They influence what we think, but more so, they influence what we think and talk about. They set the national discussion. Bias has been proven by multiple studies to be heavily left weighted. This are scientific non-partisan studies like the one UCLA conducted.
the media is a very powerful tool, they are the ones with the info first and they edit it as they wish. the beginning of the Treyvon case was great example of how the media can skew facts greatly and straight up split people for ratings or agenda. as far as elections, yes they can very easily sway the elections or just about anything they want when they want. and as long as zombies from both sides allow it and dont call bull(*)(*)(*)(*) when they know they see it, the media will stay strong and do as they please.
The media is hugely powerful and controlling ABC, NBC and CBS is a major advantage for the left. Think about it this way. The ratings for primetime news on the Big Three dwarf cable. There is a reason for this and it has little to do with political leanings. It has to do with the ease of access to them. If you can't afford cable or the internet, you can still pick up the Big Three on a basic television set, with or without rabbit ears. If you can afford basic cable, it comes with the Big Three and depending on the market you might have access to a Cable news outfit. I've stayed in hotels from SF to NY and cable coverage provided is spotty at best unless I stay high-end. This means that virtually every household has access to the Big Three. It also explains why conservatives dominate the radio. Everyone has access to the airwaves and can find an alternate viewpoint to the liberal dominated Big Three.
So we're literally at their mercy? They can say something is wrong even if it's right and can say something is right if it's wrong and shape how we vote, shop, etc.
Just look at how Obama was portrayed back in 08. Plucked out of obscurity with an unquestioned background and history. Did the big 3 bother to question the guy at all? Nope.
Pretty much. Find more than one opinion on everything submitted and do your own research and form your own opinions. Don't take anything at face value from anyone unless they have a proven track record of truthfulness. When you realize that journalism is dead in America and that the media has purposefully blurred the lines between journalism and commentary, you'll be better off.
Nov 24th 2010 It's official ~ Bill'O the Clown has deemed Faux Noize the most powerful media agency in the world. On Monday night's 'The O'Reilly Factor,' O'Reilly said, "Here at FOX we have emerged, and correct me if you think I'm wrong, but I think FOX News is the most powerful media agency in the world -- not just the country, but in the world." http://www.popeater.com/2010/11/24/bill-oreilly-FOX-most-powerful-media/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ewmk_V6SMAo
Put it like this...think of something really important to you...when you hear someone support the opposite of your belief do you end up agreeing with them or getting mad at them for being stupid... Most voters have their minds made up already on which side they support and listening to the media doesn't change this...The fact is that they gravitate to the media sources that support their view...conservatives go to Fox and liberals go to MSNBC.. Media has no impact whatsoever on peoples views...these views are instilled through parents most likely and life experiences..not the media
You got it wrong. The masses... those that Jay Leno interviews on the street and they don't know who Joe Biden is... they are very susceptible to the big three... ABC, NBC, CBS, and their left wing talking points.
Even worse, it is the deliberately unreported, or minimally reported stories. Thankfully, the internet is able to get a lot of that information out there, despite the alphabet medias attempts to glaze over it or outright ignore it. I rarely watch any of their contrived nonsense anymore. People should actually find it insulting for their attempts to manipulate, but most I imagine are not even aware.
Cops kid, learned the difference between justice and law. Joined the military, served for 10 years, learned about honor. Married a black woman when it wasn't acceptable. After we divorced, I won custody and single parent raised my kids. Basically, I have always bucked the norm, and dislike being told what to think or how to think. Usually it is the government or the media attempting to do so. Pretty much that's it.
Well, let's think about that. Obama, a person with no real work skills is president of the USA. The media is very powerful to the stupid and mentally subjugated.
Well, lets think about that. Obama is most certainly not the only person manipulating the media and he is quite powerful.....
"There are laws to protect the freedom of the press's speech, but none that are worth anything to protect the people from the press" Mark Twain "Media manipulation in the U.S. today is more efficient than it was in Nazi Germany, because here we have the pretense that we are getting all the information we want. That misconception prevents people from even looking for the truth." - Mark Crispin Miller "When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker a raving lunatic." Dresden James. (this one is where we find ourselves at today in America. Only a few see it.)
of course they do.the media is just a tool for the government.they dont do any real investigating. For example, ever notice how they consider what their NFL city football team does to be front pages news material the next day? thats really front page material everybody in the entire city REALLY needs to be aware of and know.
