Some who voted for Trump just didn't want four more years of "sluggish recovery" and we didn't have much else to expect from the alternative.

 

In fact, his career was moving along well. I believe he was interjecting himself into cultural/racial divide, which is not a bad thing, but he did it badly. Illegally. And he should be punished for it. What was a rising star will become a fallen one. And all his own fault. He may try to blame others - or even the cultural/racial divide - for this, but he has no one to blame but himself. I hope the celebrities who jumped on his bandwagon now jump on one that holds him responsible for the damage he's done.

 

While everything you say is true, Roseanne also had not been convicted of anything and she was hastily given the boot. This is Hollywood, it's all about the optics.

Someone noted earlier that the Nigerian brothers were recorded buying the rope, caught with incriminating evidence in their house, that the grainy image of them was positively ID'd by Smollett as the attackers, that this same duo was pinned down using taxi/Uber records or somesuch at the general time, that they were caught and released even though the police had enough to bust them as the attackers based on the previous info. They definitely flipped on Smollett. He's in trouble and he knows it. So do the Empire execs and I think it's safe to say a TV producer would throw his own grandmother off a cliff before letting something happen to the ratings - or other thing$ - drop on his show.

I guess we'll just haveta wait and see what they decide to do.

 

The problem I have is that his costars will support his actions. They will try and spin it to make him seem like a victim

 

I'm sure she has already mailed her apology to Mike Pence.

 

He did it badly both morally and ethically AND legally. Seems he was trying to fake his red badge of courage in our racial identity society.

 

And the story takes yet another bizarre twist:

“As a victim of a hate crime who has cooperated with the police investigation, Jussie Smollett is angered and devastated by recent reports that the perpetrators are individuals he is familiar with,” said defense lawyers Todd S. Pugh and Victor P. Henderson in a statement obtained by Deadline.

Are we now supposed to believe that 2 black Nigerians who were his friends yelled MAGA while assaulting him?

 

Oh? You think Empire is going to address the issue of racial hate hoaxes?

I think proper prosecution of Smollet's hoax legally would require appreciating his claim this was motivated by the racism and homophobia of "MAGA country" people, as an aggravating factor. To falsely report an assault is the crime, to falsely say it was due to racism and homophobia aggravates the crime.

and in its self the hoax should be considered and prosecuted as a hate crime
it fits the definition of one

 

You watch him too huh? Lately he seems to get a little more hyped up in his videos which is kind of turning me off from his stuff. I liked it better when he was more calm and collected in his approach. But yeah, his videos on Larson is just crazy. She is seriously drinking the cool-aid.

 

I love his intro to the show. And now this...

 

Doubt it - unless he is found guilty or confessed. Then perhaps one episode and they'll be back to the usual issues.

I love listening to Tim's stuff too. He's probably my favorite Youtuber simply because of how unbiased he is and how he does his best to report the facts as he knows them. I don't always agree with his personal assessment of things but I've got a lot of respect for that guy

In fact, it will be interesting to see if he can get another acting gig after this.

Although, Hollywood is known for those "give the kid another chance" types.

My guess would be, that after a reasonable period of "public rehabilitation", he will probably show up again (as long as his presence won't cost whatever show that takes a chance on him sponsors or viewers).

Yes, I think his career was going well. Empire ratings had been slumping significantly but it would be nearly impossible to sustain the first seasons success and he would have received another gig. The lead actress apparently has also said that she's getting weary of playing Cookie because of the emotional effort that goes into playing that character. The show could have already been on its final seasons and if Jussie is charged that might hasten its end.

 

He does have a kind persona. Kamala is right. That has been part of his appeal. His image has taken a big hit.

 

Looks like she jumped the shark and knocked herself out of contention for President in 2020.
