Exonerated While Black: America's Guilty Secret about Convicting Innocents Seeing how the US justice system treats the people it mistakenly locks up, you'd have to call it a racial injustice system http://www.commondreams.org/view/2013/04/19-1 It's hard to imagine a worse fate than being sent to prison or even being sentenced to death for a crime you did not commit. There's no way of knowing for sure how many of the over 2 million Americans who are currently incarcerated were wrongfully convicted, but studies estimate that somewhere between 2 and 5% of them, which would amount to up to 100,000 people, may be innocent of their crimes. What we do know, however, is that since 1989, more than 1,000 people, some of whom have spent decades in prison, have been exonerated (pdf). We also know that of that number. more than half were black and male And many of these victims of false imprisonment did NOT receive a penny in compensation under state law! For those right wingers on this forum who say racism does not exist or that only reverse racism exists, these truths should serve as a very sobering revelation. Whether any of you choose to believe it or not, racism does permeate every aspect of our society. Just imagine now if you or anyone related to you spent all those years in prison or in death row for a crime you/he did not commit. Imagine also how the police and prosecutors who falsely convicted him are living comfortably on their tax payer financed pensions while the victim was not compensated. This would force you to think over the injustices and to demand that change be brought about immediately. For a society that claims to be just, that claims to be centered on Christian and moral values, for a society that is so willing and so eager to point the finger at other countries for their human rights records, it is time to correct its own sins, to do (as Jesus said) remove the log from its own eye before criticizing the spec of dust on another's.
Nine out of ten of these blacks that were falsely convicted had probably and most likely been guilty of other serious crimes that they had gotten away without conviction or without arrest. It is a fact that blacks have a higher percentage of their race receive felonies per proportion to their population than do any other race goes to show us that false conviction or not, the chances of the law making a mistake with their arrests and eventual conviction of these blacks becomes rather remote when taken in the aggregate.
Where are the replies from the right wing delusionals who say there is no such thing as racism in the USA?
Still waiting for replies from the delusional forum right wingers who pretend there is no racism in this society.
They're hiding. Unfortunately this isn't a topic they enjoy to discuss because it makes their accusations baseless and weak.
im betting if the black violent crime rate went down, in which they are responsible for over half of the violent crimes in the country, the rate in which blacks would get falsy convicted would go down as well.
duh! lmao, of course the rate in which they were falsely convicted would go down if the rate in which they were falsely convicted would go down. smh.
It's not "racism". Many of these blacks who get wrongly accused already have long criminal histories. So it's no surprise investigators tend to suspect them first. White people with similar criminal histories also frequently get wrongly convicted. There's also MUCH MUCH more crime in Black neighborhoods. So it's not really that surprising that there would be more innocent blacks convicted. All this is yet another red herring, just more imaginative accusations of racism.
duh! Because they were wrongly accused. You cannot run, or hide from your racism because you were raised like that.
obviously you either have a serious reading comprehension problem or you are just another person who totally ignores the reality of the situation. sadly, im guessing you struggle with both issues.
Pretending? So-called right-wingers know for a fact that there is racism in this society because it is they who are the victims of racism. It is commonly known as "reverse racism."
Also every time a black is exonerated, it is on the basis of DNA. DNA results are more art than science. Results rely on the "interpretation" and politics of the laboratory that does the testing.
Probably still waiting on their talking points to be handed to them. The usual response of "reverse racism" has already been played, so you must wait for the actual response to the topic. It's kinda telling how the usual posters who are fixated on this sort of stuff (when it deals with black crime) are kinda silent on this thread..... - - - Updated - - - Probably still waiting on their talking points to be handed to them. Republicans feel the white man is the most discriminated against in today's America. They feel that since Obama took office, minorities have been targeting them.
I have posted numerous links in the past which prove that laws are enforced on a racially selective basis all throughout the entire USA thereby belying the myth that there is no such thing as racism. Naturally, every time I do so the paranoid radical far right delusionals criticize the TRUTH but they fail to refute it.
The cowardly and bigoted America hating Republican right wingers ran away from the TRUTH. No surprise.
They do that in a lot of threads, until the facts come out and they realize people are seeing through their B.S. It's a sad existence to have to be forced to live behind a keyboard...
Since the right wing hypocrites and cowards refuse to answer the challenge, let's see them concede that they have been lying all along all throughout the years on this right wing forum.
Blacks commit more crimes (by massive percentage) so it's also likely they will be wrongly convicted in equal measure.
Much like the homicide statistics, because blacks commit crime in a larger percent compared to their percentage of population does not indicate racism on anyone's part, if anything, it indicates a problem in the black community.
But if you read the reports on selective enforcement of the law you will see that blacks do not commit more crimes. Instead, the cops arrest more and this is what brings up the crime stats.
If you look at actual statistics, you cannot blame the murders on selective enforcement. Blacks commit almost 50% of gun violence though they are only 12% of the population. You can bet that all crime is somewhat relevant to that statistic.
