This has already been explained over and over again ad nauseum. TV commercials, movies, books and political advertising is expensive. TV commercials, movies, books and political advertising are protected Free Speech. To deny funding would eliminate or curtail TV commercials, movies, books and political advertising and therefore, curtail the expression of free speech. This was the heart of the Citizens United decision which involved leftists trying to prevent conservatives from releasing trailers for a political movie prior to the 2008 Democratic primary elections. If the Lefties hadn't tried to silence legitimate free speech, then we wouldn't be having this debate. The political left tried to abuse campaign finance reform laws in an unconstitutional manner to silence legitimate free speech expression. The court had to step in to prevent such abuses. Remember in America we prefer to deal with the problems tending too much freedom, than not enough! We're not slaves to anyone. Only left wing nutjobs think the free market is an enslaving institution.

No, the decision decided that companies were "persons" and had the right to make "political donations" (Read : bribes) without any restriction, thus overturning disclosure laws enacted by Theodore Roosevelt (Republican) to deal with the rampant corruption and vote buying in the US parliament before WW1. The decision paves the way for US corporations to purchase decisions of the US parliament without check. Of course, unions and political groups still have to declare donations which are limited in size.

If: - America has a very high Human Development Index (HDI) BUT A poverty rate at 18% Don't you already see the gap between the rich and the poor? Australia, Europe, Canada, France, England and many other countries take the joy of a national medical insurance scheme. Australia has had medicare for 40years. England has had their healthcare system after WWII. America has no healthcare system with so many people dying because they simply can not access health care. It's a human right. America sets so many double standards when it complains other countries exceed human rights obligations. America is sick. And your American ego and patriotism will blind you from reality. There is so much inequality in America. Australia's average income tax rate is 30% America's average income tax rate is 15% And we're doing better off than you lol.
