okay here's my little rant on facebook and why I deleted mine. I had a facebook account for about 5 and 1/2 years. since the summer of 8th grade. until a few weeks ago I decided to delete it... I got tired of it, its like an alternate reality on facebook... i'll explain. So a few weeks ago a girl from work added me on there. she liked about 10 of my photos too.... yet, in real life.. she doesnt say a word to me. another instance is a friend from HS messaged me to hang out on there... I give him my number, he never asks to hang out.... people would comment on my status', like them, debate, etc, yet in real life they dont say a word to me. people would like my pictures as well yet say nothing IRL. so in conclusion.... i believe that facebook is an alternate reality. people who would not talk to you in real life, would talk to you on facebook. and people who do talk to you in real life, dont necessarily talk to you on facebook. its all fake. its like an alternate demention/reality. this is why i deleted it. I got too confused..... people would post on my wall.... or status'. then i approach them IRL, and they act weird or dont even say anything at all.... its just dumb as hell... so thats why i decided to delete mine. anyone else have mutual feelings? similar feelings? opposite? please share
Well, I sure understand how you feel and why you deleted the account. I would too..... That's really strange how those people would react when they'd see you in person. After awhile I'd come right out and ask them why. Maybe they didn't realize how they were coming across? I don't know ....... people can be strange - and disappointing.
yeah... and i could literally go on for hours in this rant. like one of my dad's cousins that i saw ONE TIME when i was like 12 or 13 going back 5-6 years. she added me on there and would ALWAYS message me and ask me to tell my dad things.... like WTF lady, i dont even know you.. leave me the hell alone... its the stuff like this that made me leave facebook in the firstplace. im glad i did though its been about a week and i havent looked back since
That's why I only have 14 friends on my Facebook, they are all people who I actually speak to in real life. Here's what I absolutely hate about Facebook though, which is something I see my cousins doing CONSTANTLY. Vaguebooking. http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/imbecilic-art-vaguebooking/ It is by far the most annoying thing I see people do on there. I have gotten to the point where I will just post that link to their vague statuses and after about an hour they delete the status. LOL!
all i see is people putting up (*)(*)(*)(*) pictures of their food.... NO BODY GIVES A ****** ABOUT WHAT FOOD YOU ARE EATING! i just get people i semi-know... through school or work.....contact me or like my stuff...basically contact me in some way shape or form. but when it comes to real life, they dont do anything of the sort... i just found facebook to be too confusing.... recently before i deleted my account, i saw some dude wrote on my wall so i checked it out. it was a friend from the basketball team in 8th grade. he wrote on my wall an inside joke we had on the team, i see him in the halls of school the next day he says nothing.... then later on in the day i go up and start to joke with him.. but he seems extremely reserved, as if the joke we shared online that he initiated never existed in the first place... its just very weird and confusing for me. it creates two alternate realities... what people do in one world, dont do in the other... this goes both ways.... so yeah, had to delete it. im so glad i did though
Ugh tell me about it! My brother's girlfriend posted some nasty looking picture of some nasty food my brother made for her for breakfast the other day. She was like, "Oh it's so yummy, I wuv him so much!" and it looked so GROSS. Yeah I think some people are just more comfortable approaching certain people online. Who knows though. Most of my FB buddies are family and like three close friends that I see on the regular. I've had old school mates from WAY back when try to add me and I just ignore them/block them. We've grown up and moved on and I am just not interested in trying to rekindle old acquaintances that I hardly spoke to to begin with. lol!
Another point, use the opportunity to build relationships with these people. No reason to get all mopey. There are people that I have barely known and I know better through Facebook and the social interactions that take place because of avenue.
I check Facebook about once a week to see what my relatives and friends who are active in Friendbook, but live far away are doing. I have a sibling who posts pictures of her kid, a cousin who posts pictures of her kids and sometimes I get an alert that a friend is going through something. I am not a big fan of Facebook, but like many things- moderation is key.
That's how I look at FB - not really into it, but besides our emails, it's my contact w/out-of-state friends whom I've known for yrs and we share pix of ourselves & family... There was someone I had lost contact w/some yr sago that I had wanted to stay in touch with and she found me on FB, so there's good things about it, but I'm just not on it a lot.....
I need to clear something up before I comment. By "don't say a word to me" do you mean they do not approach you and engage you in conversation? Or do you mean you approach them and they stare at you like the RCA dog?
Off-topic kind of, but here is my status from yesterday: Why do people get so mad when you make an obvious statement about their disgusting behavior in public? Yes girl in class who sucked down 2 large sodas and ate a BBQ sandwich in class with your mouth open the entire time, your manners are disturbing. Don't get mad at me when I giggle when you then pull out a single piece of celery and say you're on a "diet". Hey Rancor, it sounds like you're chewing on bones over there, close your mouth when you eat! --End Rant.
I love facebook and use it almost as a blog, which I know lots of people find extremely irritating..but here's the thing...I have facebook for MY enjoyment, not for theirs. If they don't like me posting about (and showing pics of) how much dog hair I have to vacuum up each day and why my vacuum cleaner is a piece of you-know because I have to empty the stupid canister every single time, well then unsubscribe to my status updates. Because that is the stuff that rocks my world. I love putting the pics up for my family, including the family that is under the same roof. I find my vacuum cleaner functionality is really interesting.
Craigslist is scary! My son had put an ad in there, and got this call from someone who started out asking about the ad, then out of the blue asked, "Sooo..do you puff?" hahahaha some dweeb looking for smoke via random ads on craigslist. Funny but scary too.
it's a hippie site, the 420 crowd is the least of the weirdos to worry about. as long as there's no money changing hands, the criminals have no interest in random postings. i've gotten rid of a lot of junk there.
Oh, I think there's a lot more than harmless pot trading that is going on there. Not that I don't use it too...I do.
I hear ya. I got peeps who practically let u know that they are going to use the bathroom...that they have a flower growing in the garden...that they ate at some dumpy restaurant. Like the whole universe needs to know this. I have often considered just removing my account.
Again, people are not obliged to manage their facebook according to your strictures. If you don't care about status updates, edit your account so you don't get all of them from the people who annoy you.
