Fake 'Biden' robocall tells New Hampshire Democrats to stay home

"MANCHESTER, New Hampshire, Jan 22 (Reuters) - As New Hampshire voters prepared to cast their votes in the state's first-in-the nation primary Tuesday, a robocall is circulating in the state urging Democrats to stay home - using a fake audio of U.S. President Joe Biden.
"It's important that you save your vote for the November election….voting this Tuesday only enables the Republicans in their quest to elect Donald Trump again," the call says.
The White House confirmed Monday that the call was not recorded by Biden and said the incident highlights the challenges emerging technologies present, especially ahead of the November presidential election."

Well, the Republicans are at it again with their voter suppression dirty tricks. And they're the first to use AI to produce it. Why is it that whenever it comes to evil, dirty tricks Republicans are at the cutting edge ? Please discuss.

 

I heard it, it sounded pretty real. It never ceases to amaze the extent some will go to undermine the democratic process for some.

 

I think its more likely Biden just forgot making the recording, diminished mental capacity.

 

Probably because it was. Occam's razor.

I think you should be free to be stupid and write in Biden’s name in New Hampshire. The man did what he could to take away your right, as a Democrat, to pick the nominee of your party. He’s taken away your right to pick the ten Democrat delegates to their convention. That’s why it’s stupid to write in his name in addition to a host of other reasons, led by the fact that he’s senile.

So far as the phone call, yea, it sucks. But the same sort of thing has been done many times before. It pales in comparison to the Colorado court or the Maine Secretary of State taking Trump’s name off the ballot so that the voters cannot vote for him at all. That is the ultimate dirty trick, and it’s enough to make some people vote for him in sheer defiance of a corrupt system.

A strawman reach, , but:
Nahh, just some folk that want the democratic process to not work for all Americans while not seeing that the ultimate effect will undermine themselves in the bigger picture, you knows, "pawns".

 

And what benefit did Trump get from that?

Even if the Democrat voters win the state with their write-in campaign, they won’t get the pick the convention delegates. The Democrat party bosses have gone back to where they were in 1968 when war monger, Lyndon Johnson, rigged the convention.

 

Probably thought it was clever.

 

I think it's more likely that you know the truth but just want to stir the pot.

 

Lets look at the known facts here:

1. Sounds just like Biden
2. Uses Biden catch phrases, like "malarkey" (who says that?)
3. The calls included the personal cell phone number of Kathy Sullivan, a former New Hampshire ballot law commissioner and New Hampshire Democratic Party chair.
4. The campaign for former President Donald Trump said it was "absolutely not" involved in the robocall.

So looking at the facts, and considering Occam's razor, the most logical conclusion is Biden made the recording and it was sent to Kathy Sullivan (Democrat party chair) who's phone # showed up as the caller ID.

Anything else is frankly a deep state conspiracy theory.

 

Given the explosion of AI "deep fakes" over the last few years the most logical conclusion is that these are computer generated voices made to sound like Biden.

Spoofing a phone number for caller ID purposes is something scammers and call centers have been doing for years.

 

So deep state conspiracy stuff? Trump/CIA covert mission?

 

Obviously...No question...

 

I'm not blaming anyone. I have no idea who is behind it.

I'm just saying with current AI technologies faking such a "sound bite" is easier than ever.

To invoke Occam's Razor to say this HAS to be an actual recording by Biden fails to take into account the new technology.

 

Biden AND the caller ID which was the state Democrat party chair.

 

You know I'm proud to say as a republican that I help to develop that robocall and we were all in on the great big conspiracy.

It's an Open secret amongst all of us Republicans that they were going to do that....

It would actually be better for you guys if they got that dumbass off of the ticket so you should be thanking whoever did it

I bet you that him and Bigfoot hatched the plan while they were riding around in the desert with Elvis in his pink Cadillac. They probably stop somewhere just outside of area 51 and did it

 

And, as I said, spoofing phone numbers to hide caller numbers (or imitate actual numbers) is also a well known technology.

 

Same tech used for SWATting calls, very difficult to track down and in a timely manner. Pretty desperate MO to disenfranchise voters in order to peel off a few votes from the opposing party. Not surprising though, there is no low to undermine the democratic process.

 

For certain. I get telemarketers calling me from my area code and one time one of them asked my zip code and I said well you tell me you're calling from the area code.

They will probably never know who did this. I don't think it matters because it will be doing Democrats a favor not to run him again. But it's their election to lose
