'In dismissing the criticism of bias, Maher adopted a spin common on law faculties where Republicans and conservatives have been largely purged. When confronted on the lack of ideological diversity, faculty often express disbelief that anyone would assume that they are biased simply because they continue to effectively bar republicans, libertarians, or conservatives.'

It's kinda weird how too much of the Left claims that "diversity" and "inclusion" means expelling all conservatives and Republicans.

NPR has long held a curious position as America’s de facto state media outlet (with Voice of America). The recent controversy should allow us to have a meaningful debate over the need and danger of a state-funded media.'

Bingo. Operating a domestic political propaganda medium is not one of the constitutionally enumerated powers of government. More amazing is that the NPR people don't recognize their bias. It is obvious for all to hear. I listen to it frequently when I drive and find it entertaining, not because of its content but because of its bias.

We have a public-funded ABC. It's generally a little left-of-center. This is by nature, because public funded broadcasters are usually non-populist. The Rght in Australia has regularly threatened to reduce funding of ABC when it is overly critical of RW politicians, but they've never come through with it. I guess the old (conservative) darlings like their documentaries and opera.

 

I'm in Germany currently and coming to the US in June. I regularly work in the US, but I'm not a national.

It's been threatened here too for MANY years and this just might be the impetus. You do agree governments should not be support political speech at all let alone that of one party to the exclusive of another?

I have access to PLENTY of documentaries and classical music, not a fan so much of opera, without NPR and in fact cannot remember the last time I watched or listened to them. Back in the 1970's-80's I did a LOT especially every afternoon when I was traveling an in and out my car. It was about 3 in the afternoon and my radio would go over to them everyday. There was not political bias and they had balanced shows back then.
