Actually this idea of "Fake News" has been rendered obsolete….it has no meaning at all...there is nothing left to apply it to….and the same goes for “Truth”. If the whole concept of “Truth” is dependent on “Facts”…then by what criteria are “Facts” determined?? Kelly Ann Conway, became aware early on that Trump just makes stuff up when he talks...so in order to not be perceived as contradicting him....and also not look like an idiot to the public for going along with his lies…..she came up with the idea of "Alternative Facts". Quite an ingenious idea me thinks!! So here's an example….. “Fact” = Biden Won….Trump Lost “Alternative Fact” = Trump Won….Biden Lost So...which fact is “Fact”??? In reality...at least for now...."Truth" is just a matter of opinion It seems everyone has a different opinion...as a matter of "Fact"...that is all they have.
Fact: The LW/Complex coined "fake news" to attack political opposition fallaciously, and then a more net-awakened public near instantly turned that attempt around and has crucified MSM with it since. Same for the rash of bogus "fact checking." The slaughter persists today. You can waffle, wheedle, whine, rationalize all you like, the above is a demonstrated fact of discourse today, and trying to "take it back" by vainly attempting to make it all about Trump or the few nonleft media outlets in a sea of "compliant" propaganda outlets is transparent and amusing. Damage is done, MSM is utterly discredited in so many ways among hundreds of millions worldwide, pick some new method of bamboozling the public, and learn the lesson to vet and thoroughly test sleazy propaganda tactics before having them backfire. Or here's a novel concept, report the news of the day factually and accurately free of slimy partisan overlay and deck-stacking of any type.
I tried to find where the "Alternative Fact" idea originated. Found this old article in Psychology Today.... Here is part: "In the current "Newspeak" that Ms Conway called "alternative facts" on Sunday, falsehoods lose their negative connotation and become facts—albeit alternative facts. The new administration's efforts at mind control begins. According to Oxford Dictionaries, "Newspeak" in Orwell's novel is "designed and controlled by the state in order to suppress free thought, individualism, and happiness." The new language shapes peoples' minds to what the State wants them to think, feel and even see. Language and Totalitarianism Are we entering an authoritarian regime with a strongman in charge who wants to control the minds of Americans as he controlled the minds of those who attended his rallies? The answer seems to be "yes." Authoritarian dictators crave control. If they can control what you believe and even what you think you see, then their power over you is total." https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/...01701/the-historical-origin-alternative-facts
It is not a matter of fact but a matter of opinion when the truth is avoided...Look at it like a mathematical equation that seeks to find the truth and not the mathematicians opinion..
Yes! That idea had occurred to me.... (A) + (-A) = Truth (A) = “Fact” = Biden Won….Trump Lost (A-) = “Alternative Fact” = Trump Won….Biden Lost (A) + (-A) = zero IMHO
"Control?" Hilarious in light of ongoing gov-edu-union-contractor-grantee-trial lawyer-MSM Complex self-serving COVID propaganda, MASK AUTHORITARIANISM, unlawful lockdowns, deplatforming the noncompliant, astroturfed race riots and other manufactured "unrest," election fraud and outright ballot destruction/box stuffing, ~millions of CCP spies infiltrated into the U.S. as students, faculty, corporate employees, and a host of internet CCP shills pledged to their communist government to conduct espionage and subversion in the U.S., said agents sleeping, bribing and extorting members of Congress, an incoming POTUS administration grossly and obviously corrupted by foreign interests for decades. So tell us all more garbage about the "Trump strongman." There's lots of strongman type control attempt ongoing in the U.S., none of it by the Trump Administration. BTW Psychology Today is trash, has been trash for a long time like so many other erstwhile reasonable sources of information, is on par with supermarket tabloids, worse though due to its transparent partisanship and propaganda.
I can hardly think of anything so dangerous as a society that gives up on the belief in objective truth.
Maybe...but perhaps half of society already has...the question is which half...and who or what makes that decision.
Perhaps....but that concept will not function in the present reality unless everyone agrees what constitutes "Truth".
Fake News obsolete? What about, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, NPR,CNN, the NY Times, The Chicago Tribune, WAPO, USA Today, Time Magazine, the New Yorker, the Atlantic, Huffington Post, Salon, Mother Jones, Politico, SF Chronicle, the LA Times, the Chicago Sun, the Boston Globe et al???????
Yes, but, in fairness, this has always been the case. Media determines what we see and hear to shape our viewpoints on various subjects. The only thing that Trump has done is make is abundantly clear that the medium (and his opinion of them) is fickle. Also, keep in mind that he was always in the private sector so he's not accustomed to anyone telling him "no" or "you're fired". It's a tough pill to swallow and he's having a very difficult time swallowing it for sure!
I have no reason to disagree with your ideas about Trump...my opinion is no better than yours. I just wanted to clarify where the idea of "alternative facts" came from...that article seemed as good as any.
The way I see it, most ppl are looking at how these 'facts' and 'alternative facts' are going to manifest themselves in practical application to our lives. Ultimately its a showdown between authoritarian collectivism and the preservation of individual choice. The authoritarian collectivists are trying to justify the abolition of individual choice by manufacturing a mandate to protect the greater good, and the individual voluntaryists are trying to undermine the perception of that mandate to protect their choice. But what it really comes down to is one group saying 'we will force compliance' and the other group saying 'we will not comply.' This battle over 'facts' is just an attempt to avoid the next battle over compliance. When we stop arguing over the facts, the battle over compliance will be near, and that battle will not be one of words. So I'm happy to keep arguing over the facts.
Yes but in the present "reality"....what is "fact" is just a matter of opinion...that is my point. Try to convince some here of the "fact" that they are wrong about Trump winning the election.....
