    Here's the reality.

How the rich corporations line their pockets with public assistance money.

McDonalds pays over a billion a year in taxes alone.

What good is that when we must support their millions of workers?

And this is EXACTLY the reason I have been pro raising the minimum wage to $9.27 per hour.

    - - - Updated - - -

Actually incorrect, since wages are paid by individual franchises, not McD corporation. Show me a McD franchise paying a billion a year in taxes.

I thought it was illegal aliens who don't speak English and can't take an order correctly who not worth a living wage who are costing taxpayers money.

And lazy Obama voters who dropped out of school in the 9th grade that are causing a burden on the system.

Your leftwing source is full of crap.

SO you don't believe that McD has employees who are working as many hours as they can, as hard as they can but still qualify for welfare? LOL

Another sorry example of why this country is going to hell in a handbasket, nearly everyone is divided on what they think are left/right lines and are unwilling to concede even the tiniest thing.

Mac, the left is plenty stupid and not everything they want is right or will help anyone, but neither is everything they stand for bad and evil. The same is of course true of the right , but all we can is what we can do. Why can't you accept that not everything the right stands for is right or just?

I don't think the job they do there as common employees on the line is worth as much money as libs are demanding.

SOME libs? I absolutely agree, but surely you realize that the nuts don't represent the whole? Obama is the leader of the "libs" and he wants $9 an hour. That is reasonable, and you must realize that. I know you're too smart not to realize that.

Yes, the fools demanding $12,15, even $20 an hour are stupid.

I believe in letting the free market set the scale.

The problem starts with too many low skill workers from Mexico and other places who are here illegally.

They are recreating the situation in Third World countries of too many workers for not enough jobs.

First of all, the minimum wage is a completely artificial floor, the market didn't set that limit, the gov't did.

Second of all, I don't know of too many illegals working in fast food, those places are regulated pretty tightly and MUST provide paperwork for every new hire. Sure a small percentage of illegals are using false papers , but most are working cash jobs.

Third, we have 5 McD within 40 miles of us, all 5 have had now hiring signs up for the last month, how is that possible if illegals are stealing all the jobs Americans want? And before you get started let me assure you that we have a thriving population of illegal aliens here in northwest arkansas.

let me add something else. I have 10 employees, I have people in here at least a couple times a week looking for jobs. I have never , not once refused to give an employee a raise based on having someone else willing to take their job.

    1) Reduce the welfare spending

    2) Fast food workers quit because they can't survive on the wage without the gov't assistance.

    3) Fast food joints have no workers

    4) Fast food closes down, or starts to hire workers at higher rates to stay in business.

I think you would be happy with either one of the results of this, no?

Stop the welfare spending. Allow wages to rise.

No, it is the government that is costing the taxpayers.

If the government stopped the free stuff programs, the deficit would nearly disappear.

MickeyD doesn't send the IRS goons after you.

Many places have help wanted signs up, it doesn't mean they want MORE people, often they just want CHEAPER people.

Who or what tightly regulates a fast food franchise? Fill in the I9 fraudulently, take whatever fraudulent docs the illegal gives you, you now have a worker who will not complain, will never want overtime, holidays, work any kind of crazy hours, split shifts etc and not comment on the various illegal and dangerous practices concerning the customers or worker safety concerning food handling, storage, etc., but that are QUITE profitable.

Here in California we have several RESPONSIBLE chains like In'nOut Burger, who pay ALL employees WELL OVER minimum wage, give health insurance and many other good practices that means they do not require taxpayers to subsidize their operations, they make their country a better place yet make enormous profits and success.

That is why we need to close down illegal employers, confiscate their business and the owner's assets, and then let the responsible companies WIN even more in the marketplace on a fair basis.

That's tortured logic at best. Why are people relying on MacDonald's for a living? Why do people expect any job, no matter how limited it may be in value generated or hours worked by the employee, to pay enough money to afford to live on? You work at Macca's while training or going to a university. You don't stay there and expect to earn a living as a fry cook, ffs.

Plus, the government could save many Americans a huge amount of money by not taxing their income and just about everything they spend money on..

If the fast food workers wanted a real living wage, they'd go get one of the thousands of truck-driving jobs that go begging every day.

Driving a truck won't make you rich as Soros, but it beats fast food pay.

What a steaming pile of "progressive" Current Truth™.

It's the politicians in DC who are redistributing taxpayer income and the people receiving that money who are costing taxpayers.

THAT is the reality. Fast-food chains aren't forcing anyone to work at their restaurants, much less forcibly preventing anyone from qualifying for a better paying job.

Free enterprise hate speech. If the rest of our economy had any vitality then the low end jobs would be what they are supposed to be which is entry level jobs for high school students who need money to chase little Suzy around the block a time ot two. If we had a vital economy people who are now holding these jobs would be doing things that pay more and has benefits. But what we have is an economy that is being thwarted on every front because of over reaching and useless regulations and policies from an administration who hates you (because of being an Obama voter people who are but useful idiots in his America destroying agenda) and me (because I am a real American and I know the truth about Comrade Soetoro and his America destroying agenda) and everything that this great country stands for.

The only reason the "country is going to hell in a hanbaset" is because of collectivist Marxist progressive leftist loserism and their false issue driven agenda with utter disregard for the constitution, instead of doing what we should be doing allowing ecnomic activity as free as possible from governemnt hinderence and constitutionally small government there would be an abundance of money and for programs for people who really can not provide for themselves.

There are so many examples similar to truck driving that it's almost mind boggling that people think they should be able to work a minimum wage type of job and somehow afford to live a normal existence forever. Those jobs are stepping stones to other positions in the workforce, not just at McD's. People are not forced to one type of minimum wage job or another, and the expectation that they should be able to choose cashier at McD's for their career position, then get $10-15-20 per hour is crazy. The economics just don't support paying high wages for unskilled work. At some point we have all been expected to get some type of education, some type of training, some type of experience, and perhaps ask for some level of assistance to get there. But for workers to make a career of working at McD's in their entry level positions...that's not the intent of the jobs and raising the minimum wage to accommodate them will only result in higher costs to consumers.

Last I checked, my state offers all types of training in various trades for zero cost. One can learn a variety of trades and seek state assistance through employment offices for opportunities to take ENTRY LEVEL positions (minimum wage) in order to learn that trade in the real world while supporting people already doing those jobs. The end goal is to go from entry position to journeyman through hard work, attention to detail and lots of effort.

Writing bigger checks simply enables those who wish to stagnate in a position never intended to be a career position. We have so many unfilled jobs because we have an unskilled and uneducated workforce. Student loans are easy to get, community colleges are cheap, technical training is offered in so many industries where they believe, "Just come in...we'll train you!" Employers need good employees, but not the type with their hand out in the air looking for something for nothing. People may need to make hard choices, such as moving to where there are jobs or living apart from family to get on their feet. Opportunities are out there by the thousands, but people so often want to sit at home and complain they didn't get enough given to them.

People who need help should get help and it's socially responsible to help them. But raising the minimum wage is not how you do it. Give them free training. Give them internship positions where they can learn and have something of quality to put on a resume for doing a good job. Give them the tools to succeed, not the cash to do nothing. We need to feed and protect our citizens, but we do not have to give them a standard of living that includes the latest technologies and a really nice car to drive. Those are luxuries for those who do that hard work and put themselves through school, who give up time with family to earn an education, who work themselves to death trying to get through a training program or a degree program, who work two or three jobs just to get by until they improve their own situation enough to move into a better position.

I will help anyone who needs a helping hand, but I will not advocate for helping people who are doing nothing to help themselves besides complaining others are not doing enough for them.

Then it's probably more if this is just corporate profits

Don't you think we'd be supporting a lot of them regardless? Even a minimum wage job benefits the economy, as those employees are spending that 8 bucks a hour at other businesses

Isn't McDonald's a franchise operation? Aren't the restaurants actually owned and ran by individuals?

20 million illegal aliens can't all be working for cash.

And yes there are a lot of phony Ids and stolen identities being being used to get jobs.

The minimum wage is an artificial number that does not reflect the value of the worker to the employer or the customer.

If we deported every illegal alien in the workplace and ended the welfare scam for Americans wages would go up for American workers.

That does mean no more business as usual where lazy Americans get welfare and illegal aliens do the work.

Which is why the politicians in both parties (except for the Tea Party) are unwilling to do it.

To answer my questions actually it is both but McDonald's does get alot of revenue from the franchises. It really isn't the big evil corporation that obama is helping out.

The report cited is from NELP, a strictly left leaning organization. Sitting on their board of directors are:
    Elaise L. Fox
President, United Food and Commercial Workers, AFL-CIO, Local 1657
    Jonathan Hiatt, Esq.
Chief of Staff and Executive Assistant to the President, AFL-CIO

    So,
    1) any information they publish is highly questionable.
    2) They are proponents of the "living wage", an intentionally ambiguous concept that would send our economy into a tail spin.
    3) NELP promotes making criminal records less available to employers during the hiring process.

In short, NELP basically places business's just above slave owners, especially businesses who pay lower wages. I'm not saying all their people are evil or even bad, I'm just stating what they advocate is strictly left sided and anything they publish reflects it.
