I've raised this point at church, and was told by a senior person that people are fat because they eat too much and exercise too little. 1/ Eat too much - the deadly sin of gluttony 2/ Too little activity - the deadly sin of sloth. The reverend commented it is genetic, this didn't help very much because she was implying the person's offspring were cursed down to the 3rd or 4th (or more) generation. I'm not saying other religions don't also do it.
I would suggest that at least 99% of all people who notice they are porky promptly started eating less. And in most cases it didn't work, but how many did some research to find out what does work? People as a rule seem happier to think they know everything already, than to actually admit they don't know everything and find out how to fix something.
Another part of the formula is that our governments have been convinced by Neo-Malthusians that we humans are a danger to the environment....... so... elected officials and bureaucrats favour technology such as GMO foods...... that will seriously mess up the health and longevity of humans........ and so food in 2024 tends to make us weak............... lacking in energy....... and tend to become obese........ sugar for example is mostly produced from genetically modified sugar beets.... and is far more deadly than we can even begin to imagine...... ... http://www.politicalforum.com/index...tary-on-netflix-i-highly-recommend-it.552217/ The Magic Pill... documentary on Netflix... I highly recommend it. THE MAGIC PILL | Official Trailer HD For the record.... Genesis 11:6 is one of the most insightful paragraphs on human productive capability that I have ever read....... 6 And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Thomas Robert Malthus was an Anglican Priest who had some understanding of the pessimistic application of this principle..... but he had little faith in the possibily of humanity coming together and begining to act in an ethical manner in terms of our productive capability!? An apology to all humanity from Thomas Malthus by Dennis Tate Elected officials and bureaucrats in the USA and Canada approve dangerous technology.... partly due to the influence of neo-Malthusian thinkers in high places of influence. Bill Gates is their poster boy...... in my opinion anyway......
Well, I'm sorry for fat people. I knew someone who was fat, and then lost it, so it can be done. Your last sentence is ironic in a religious forum, since most religious people seem to think they know everything, but refuse to look at the science....
Metabolism is very powerful. Most of my life I had a high metabolism and my body was in control. After I had my babies I lost my appetite....and lost weight quickly. When I started jogging I had a huge appetite. Still no body fat.. When I stopped jogging I lost my appetite. And no body fat.. Most people aren't blessed like I was. Now at 60, i have jiggly stuff on my belly for first time, I exercise a little and hungry a lot. Dang metabism. I know ladies that watch what eat but they keep the weight. That isn't gluttony. But I also see obese people at Golden Corral loading up over and over. That is gluttony in my opinion.
Most people I meet are unwilling or unable to update their opinions. They get angry if I have a plausible alternative narrative and often shout at me. The religious people I've met have been less sure of themselves than the typical Democrat.
As for religious dogmatism, it may be common among the Roman Catholics, and over here among the fundamentalists, but apart from those and in European countries my experience is religious conflict is not a big problem. Sure in the past it was a problem and burning people to death was one way of resolving differences in religious opinion. These days tell even some fundamentalists I knew that paganism isn't so much evil as a system for ensuring crops were planted at the right time of year, and you may get agreement, but be a democrat in some churches or a republican in some others and you will discover the true modern reaction to heresy. The church I'm in now and several others I've been in the past, has conflicts over politics, but it would be unusual to have a heated debate over most points of doctrine.
One person at church did dispute with me over fat shaming, but I noticed he was the right weight and his wife very large, and very nice also, and I think fat shaming was the way he kept his status as better than her. He is not a well liked person so I think he is conflicting with her over his social status.
If someone wanted to do the research I suspect a link could be established between the metabolites of birth control pills in the environment and obesity. This thought occured to me when people started catching hermaphrodite fish in the Patomac River in DC below the Blue Plains sewage treatment plant. General Ripper (in Dr. Strangelove) was ahead of his time with only drinking rainwater and Vodka, i.,e, Purity of Essence (lol).
Buddha is often depicted as fatty. That is to represent "the middle way" - avoiding all extremes. For me I can testify than I feel better now as a "fatty" than I felt in my youth when I was thin. But then, I am no trying to brake any sport records, so I don't need to be slim and fit, just feel comfortable in my body. Religion states many things and not all of them are necessarily true.
All these Democrats - and now fat people - telling you where to shove your gifts to humanity. Oh, the injustice!!
