For many centuries prior to the end of XIXth Century, Europe and Russia were ruled by noble classes. Nobles composed about 1% of population and consumed about 20% to 30% of GNP. This enabled most nobles to live comfortable lives at the expense of peasants. In reality, Feudalism gave nobles Positive Rights at the expense of peasants. Many peasants hated nobles, but nobles were the ones who produced fine arts and scientific discoveries. Even though feudal system was unfair, it gave birth to technology which in turn brought Modern Society. In West Europe, peasants rented nobles' land but peasants themselves were free. In Russia and East Europe, about 50% of peasants were serfs. As such they had the same legal rights as slaves and were subject to cruelty. One major difference between American Slavery and Russian Serfdom is that American slaves had work obligation about 2.5 times higher then Russian serfs. American Slavery relied much more on direct violence and compulsion.
But American slavery was not as bad as it was in Caribbean. Life on the sugar island brutal for slaves. The death rate was so high that the slave owners had to keep importing slaves to the get the work done. In the United States, life was poor to brutal for slaves depending upon the owner. Still the birth rates and life expectancies were such that new slaves were not really needed although smugglers continued to bring them in after the constitution outlawed the import of slaves in 1808.
As more and more Americans are left with less and less option but to rent their home from an investment firm that is likely also heavily invested in their place of employment, we're slowly but steadily shifting back toward a de facto feudalist system.
The elite Democrats are very much like the nobles and kings of England that I have studied from the middle ages. King John of England (1199 – 1216) might well provide their template, without the Magna Carta to get in the way, of course. Their goals are to rule by decree and make elections less and less important as they strive for a one party state. They, of course, have a corner on knowledge and wisdom, and know what’s best for their “inferiors.” Bill Gates, who is a member of this select group, is looking for a time when the “serfs” will be less mobile and tied closer to home because of climate change regulations. Electric vehicles, with shorter fuel ranges and longer refueling periods will limit the number of trips that the average citizen will be able to take. Of course Bill, along with his like-minded buddies, Al Gore, John Kerry and the other elites, will continue to be able to fly around the world in their private jets. The carbon their jets emit will be of no consequence because the rest of the world will be emitting very little of it because of their enlightened leadership. Of course these “leaders” will expect the lesser citizens to thank them for the wonderful world they have created. It will be a world free of chaos, democracy and choices.
England was the first country in which all serfs were freed. The changes arose in England from the efforts of the Kings to make the Crown the supreme and unquestioned authority, which made the slow destruction of the feudal system inevitable. The ‘Spinning Jenny’ was invented in 1764 by James Hargreaves, who was illiterate and worked as a hand loom weaver during most of his life. It was a key development in the industrialisation of weaving, as it could spin many spindles at a time, increasing to eighty as the technology improved. In this optimal environment, the Industrial Revolution was started in England. Serfs had be freed and mobilised as factory workers, which was done in Japan and Russia belatedly in the 1860s to catch up with the West.
What is the right's obsession with Gates? Bill Gates doesn't even run Microsoft anymore and is content with just spending his billions on vanity projects, so why do you people still view him as some sort of shadowy figure trying to control the world? He's just some computer nerd who got lucky and became a billionaire by stealing other people's stuff and reselling it to the gullible. Then when he's at the top of the world, he realizes that nobody likes him, so he starts giving away his money to try to buy respect, but we know how that turned out.
Yea, he’s like George Sorros and Mark Zuckerberg. They are just using their billions to impose socialism on everyone but them. The old time billionaires, like the Fords and the Rockefellers set up foundations that donated money to worthwhile causes. These jerks use their money to impose their politics on the people who are their financial inferiors. They are disgusting.
Do you guys actually hear yourselves? Billionaires trying to impose socialism? I think the problem is that you have been brainwashed into believing that socialism is some kind of shadowy boogy man without knowing what it really is.
Yes, I hear myself, and it’s the truth. Look at the woke DAs around the country who won’t enforce the criminal laws who have their campaigns bankrolled by Soros. If you agree with those policies, you don’t see a problem.
You did not really explain to us what exactly the "feudal system" involved very well. Not all feudal systems involved the peasants being tied to the land by legal obligations.
I think it is good to add here that poverty, hunger and extreme mortality between specially children but in fact People in general was reduced only with capitalism and industrial revolution in 19 century combined with liberal democracy slowly making progress. That really opened the Doors for inovations never seen before in the history of humanity.
I take particular exception with your last paragraph. You are making some very specific claims and as such this requires that you provide very specific evidence. Otherwise your claim can be easily dismissed.
