    Full title:
NYC firefighter, 36, dies of heart attack after being fired to pay for migrants — leaving his family with nothing

An FDNY firefighter has died of a heart attack just months after he was fired as part of the city’s effort to free up funds for its migrant crisis — leaving his grieving widow and kids struggling to keep a roof over their heads.

Derek Floyd, 36, suffered cardiac arrest and passed away April 15, four months after the city gave him the boot as part of a larger effort to pare staff and pay for housing and services for the tens of thousands of migrants flooding the Big Apple.

Remember when democrats were a party for the little guy? A party for the working blue collar just trying to keep food on the table? I do. Now the platform seems its all about trans, immigrants, and racism against whites.

A Marine veteran and NYNY first responder is cast aside so illegal aliens can be serviced. Now his family is in for tough times. Who can even justify this?

Thoughts and prayers to the family of this firefighter. Thoughts and prayers to the families who lost loved ones after Trump's traitors tried to end democracy on J6.

My gut feeling on this is that he was fired for not being able to perform tasks after his 2019 heart attack. Probably would have had a 2nd heart attack either way. I would guess that their will be a lawsuit for firing him due to his health. It appears that if they did get rid of a bunch of people on long term light duty, there might be a class action suit. I can understand the city's predicament though. They need firefighters to fight fires, not shuffle paper.

I was wondering what difference it would make whether he lost his job or not because he probably would have died from the heart attack anyway. The news store covered that issue and I have provided the relevant quotes below.

So I'm guessing you were first in line to donate to the family's cause?
Sticking this on Democrats is very misplaced.
In fact, if this topic, cutting spending, were to be assigned a political party, seems like the Republicans would be the first target. They are more likely to call for cuts for public service.
Sad story, the family sure could use the help, but terrible commentary..............

Right, because republicans are known for wanting to let in illegals and fund them.

Sounds like complete BS. Never heard of a union govt employee being just fired like that for some unrelated budget need.

Known for cutting public services, like teachers and their pay, like police and their pay, like firefighters and their pay.
How else does one make tax cuts work?
You never answered the question: did you donate to the firefighters family? Here's a link for you to save time: https://www.gofundme.com/f/derek-charles-floyd-funeral

"Floyd, a veteran who served three tours in the Middle East with the Marines, had been among those working a desk job — toiling in the fire department chaplain’s office — because he had suffered another heart attack in 2019 while he was in the Fire Academy."

    Why lie about it?

Yah he wasn’t just fired for illegals. He can’t do the job. How long should they keep someone around who can’t do the job they were hired to do??

Try reading the article, as you could have gotten all of this had you:

Floyd was one of about 10 fire department employees who had been on “long-term duty” — either injured on the job and given office work or out sick for an extended period — and fired weeks before Christmas, FDNY sources told The Post.

He was doing the job in the chaplains office. Where did you read that he couldn't do that job anymore?

I did read it and many were allowed to retire instead. you just said he keeps having heat attacks so he’s on desk duty. He’s not up for the job and should find a career his heart can handle.

Your link is incomplete. It doesn't quote anyone from FDNY, nor does it include any proof of the claim that these personnel cuts are related to funds used to house and feed the migrants that Texas and other states have bussed to the city. It alsomfails to mention that the federal government funds the border states (not enough, but that's on Republicans) for dealing with immigrants. NYC receives none of that funding and has had to foot the bill on their own.

    https://www.newsday.com/long-island/obituaries/derek-floyd-obituary-p5ugjm97

Derek Floyd was a probationary employee of the FDNY. He was not a firefighter due to having had a previous heart attack.

The right is using him and his family to poke politically at the Democratic mayor. If you guys really give a crap about him, there's a GoFundMe page for his family.

Your answer, along with your forum cohorts, proves my point in the OP.

"Oh he had a heart attack, so **** him and his family"

"Mr. Adams said in a statement that he had to make cuts across city agencies in response to the rising costs of the migrant crisis, slowing tax revenues and the ending of federal pandemic aid.

No city should be left to handle a national humanitarian crisis largely on its own, and without the significant and timely support we need from Washington, D.C., today’s budget will be only the beginning,” he said."

Mayor Eric Adams Says N.Y.C. Will Slash Budgets For Police, Libraries and Schools - The New York Times (nytimes.com)
    and then:
Budget cuts cause reduced staffing at New York City firehouses, firefighters union says - CBS New York (cbsnews.com)

    Now, in fairness, also:
"According to the mayor’s office, funding was restored to the NYPD and the FDNY after the city was able to save over $2 billion by the reduction of spending on the migrant influx"
Mayor Adams announces reversal for some budget cuts (ny1.com)

So it was a bad idea and NY realized it was a bad idea and mitigated it ...somewhat.

But this guy WAS demonstrably let go to pay for migrants.

As far as his previous heart attack goes, apparently he had the first heart attack while training for the FD, in the burn tower iirc. Professional fire departments (and FDNY is probably the pinnacle of Pro FD in the nation, if not the world) don't let people into the burn tower without a physical assessment ensuring they can handle it. Its the most strenuous part of firefighter training. Someone screwed up, which is why he was kept on with the FD while he recuperated and better prepared himself for burn tower training. We don't know the cause of the 2nd heart attack, but it does indicate that he probably wasn't close to being ready for another go at the burn tower...

So your take on this is that he was let go because of migrants?

You want to know my take?

He lost his benefits because he lost his job. ONLY in America is your ability to pay for medical care based solely on your employment status.

Kind of highlights what Republicans have failed to do and Democrats have only partially succeeded to do: health care for everyone. Trump said it would be easy, they had this big plan, remember the big book he displayed (but not the contents) and said it would be revealed in a few weeks?
Four years later it still hasn't been revealed. And Republicans vowed to get rid of the only legislation that's been passed to that effect in the last ____________years.

I wonder, do you always assume the nastiest of motives/sentiments from other because those would be yours? Seriously, why do you insist on doing that? I expressed no personal sentiments about the man.

The point here is that the FDNY knows why he was cut from staff along with many others, but your New York Post, Murdoch-approved article did not bother to ask. They did not mention the reason for his being on desk duty, nor did they include any proof for their claim of the reason the FDNY cut office staff.

I did not say "**** him and his family" in any way. My comment addressed your biased, incomplete article. Shame on you for your accusation.
