It is easy for most of us to list the great things our favorite presidents did. But can you list the five worst things he did? I'll start. Ronald Reagan. Not in order: 1) Arms for hostages deal with Iran. (didn't mind the sending arms to the Contras part myself) 2) Failure to work harder to curb abortions in the U.S. (Reagan himself mentioned this as one of his great regrets later). 3) Failure to work harder to curb entitlement spending. 4) Effectively making George H.W. Bush his successor and not a real conservative. 5) Granting amnesty to more than three million illegal aliens (leading to horrendous problems today).
I can only think of one. Bush II. I voted for him because he promissed no nation building. he turned around and did the opposite of what he promissed He then bailed out banks and other giants that wall streeters were protesting I have no further faith in American politics on television. no more then on the socialist state run media. nothing will bring it back short of revolution with lots of people brought to ultimate justice, televised for all to see.
George Washington: He was a horrible general even though he's not represented that way. Even after he took office and tried to get the Indians under control, the people he put in charge got slaughtered. Its pure luck, and the French, that saved him during the war. By far his biggest mistake was allowing Hamilton and Jefferson/Madison to bicker and fight and splinter Congress into two parties that would eventually become the Democrats and Republicans. He basically allowed the formation of partisanship. He also negotiated and finalized treaties with the Indians-and then asked Congress for permission (sound familiar), setting a dangerous precedent of circumventing the Constitutional rights of the Senate. With France in revolution in Europe, the British took advantage by launching the Northwest Indian wars against the French and Washington refused to help the French even though they bailed us out during the revolution. When Britain refused to give up their outposts in the Great Lakes areas until America repaid war debts, Washington refused to go to war. Even when Britain said they would start raiding American shipping, Washington pushed for a peace treaty. He apparantly never forgot his roots and was very weak on this issue. It of course led directly to the war of Franco-American war.
Well, it might have something to do with Washington having a distinctly "Anglophile" view when it came to the British and French and that despite the assistance of the French during the war, as a former British subject, Washington had a distinctly hostile view of the French. Also, Washington was not infrequently visited by a number of British officers and officials after the war including those he had fought against which made him more predisposed toward the British in the long run.
My favorite president is Thomas Jefferson. He only really made one mistake that I know of, and we all know what it is.
Eisenhower: 1. Supported the Coup against Iran's democratically elected government. 2. Ordered the 1960 U-2 flight that collapsed any chance of ending the Cold War at the Paris Conference. 3. Stongarmed NATO into adopting the crappy 7.62 round instead of the brilliant .280 British. 4. Began US involvement in Vietnam in support of the French puppet dictator. 5. The Bay of Pigs.
Jefferson had many many issues. I will leave it at that for now. Let's just say that he would fit in quite well with our current day politicians.
