"I'm fighting Miguel Cotto on May 5th because Miss Pac Man is ducking me.
” -- Floyd Mayweather Jr., in a tweet after his hearing

"Miguel Cotto is a world-class fighter who can never be taken for granted and continues to prove he is one of the best in boxing," said Mayweather, whose long-discussed match with Manny Pacquiao has been put off yet again. "It will be a challenge for me to compete with him at this weight, but this is the type of test I thrive on and gives me the motivation to train even harder. I have no doubt in my mind that my title belt collection will increase once again and Cotto's reign as champion will come to an end on May 5."

    And cotto on Mayweather

"I am here to fight the biggest names in boxing," said Puerto Rico's Cotto, a three-division titleholder. "I've never ducked anyone or any challenge in front of me. I have accepted everything to give the fans what they like -- great and exciting fights. That is what the sport of boxing is all about, making the fights that the fans want and deserve to see. On May 5, stay tuned, because I will convincingly beat Floyd Mayweather."

I got Mayweather, sad we are not going to see pacman but thats on him, he had a nice offer from Mayweather.

Cotto is a good fighter and I hope he brings it but Mayweather is just too skilled.

Mayweather is so overrated. He's all swagger. But if the Pacquiao fight ever does happen, I'll totally watch it. Pacquiao will beat him.

Mayweather spent the last two years ducking a fight with Pac Man, he doesn't have much room to talk.

This will be Mayfeather's biggest challenge to date...

Cotto is serious business, as Margarito can attest to from their last bout...

Mayfeather will be backpedaling the entire fight to stay away from Cotto's power...

Mayweather late TKO. You'll start to see the beatdown take shape around round 5 or 6.

I don't think Mayweather has the power to take down Cotto...

In fact, Mayweather has never displayed a lot of power...

It's his handspeed & defense that wins fights, mostly by decision...

A TKO doesnt require knockout power in this day and age in boxing. Most refs step in now a days when a fighter is getting outclassed. Not to mention badly swollen eyes, bad cuts, etc.

Cotto has big power, but I expect it to look similar to the Pacquiao fight.

Against Cotto, power will be a necessity for a TKO to happen...

He got his ass beat against Pacquiao because Pac-Man has power...

And against Margarito the first time, well, we all know what happened there, and what happened in the rematch sans plaster...

Mayweather is a generally soft puncher, and that won't score a TKO against Cotto...

    You're delusional.

You do realize most people believe Marquez beat Manny, correct?

Mayweather has displayed that power in the lower levels without a doubt. He's shown the power at his current weight simply by forcing his opponents back with hard shots. His problem is he never puts it together (he doesn't want to get hit in return).

He has enough power to keep iron chinned Mosley at bay (this is right after he dismantled Margarito). He has enough power to KO Ortiz (sucker punched him, yeah but Ortiz also outweighed him by like 15 pounds). When Mayweather feels it's safe to sitdown on his punches, he'll hurt you.

I say around the 5th or 6th round because by then, Cotto will be shook and nervous about taking shots. Mayweather will start to go on the offensive at that point. Also, Cotto doesn't punch very much while his opponents are punching, he opts to be defensive at that point. You can't do that against Mayweather. He'll have to fight like Marquez to keep Mayweather off of him.

1st half of the fight will be a counterpunching display, 2nd half will be a beatdown when Cotto reverts to form and opts to go defensive (which will spell his doom).

Wow, totally disagree with you there. Mayweather IMO is the best pure boxer of this generation. Technically, the man is near flawless.

I'd just like to say Ortiz had that (*)(*)(*)(*) coming...

As far as Cotto, we'll see, but, I expect his power to be a problem for Floyd...

Even Mosley rocked him early in the 2nd, and then stopped fighting for some reason...

100% agree on the Ortiz thing. The ref said fight and Ortiz wanted to hug again for the 20th time. I would have sparked him too at that point.

The 'some reason' you've mention was Floyd taking his looping right hand away by using his jab and straight right before Mosley could get in close to club him again. Floyd often gives away the first few rounds as he figures his opponents out. Just watch the fight against Zab. You'll see Floyd try a few things before settling into walking him down and popping him with the right hand.

Don't get me wrong, I'm fan of Cotto. I just don't think he'll be able to utilize his skills in a fight with Floyd. Floyd is just too fast and skilled for him. If the fight happened 10 years ago, it would probably be a much better contest. Floyd's gotten bigger and stronger over time.

    Your comment makes perfect sense...

I still think this will be Floyd's biggest challenge yet, though...

Mayweather will win. I am not sure about the TKO thou. Mayweather is going up in weight. So his punches will lose some power.

Mayweather will win by points. He will make Cotto look like a beginner. Much like what he did to Juan Manuel Márquez.

    I don't know...

I'd suspect that he goes up in the power dept., and sacrifices a little in the speed category...

Wrong. Now it is the PacMan that does not want to fight. Mayweather has been calling out the PacMan on Tweeter.

I don't know about the Marquez fight being staged, but, I will agree that Floyd id ducking Pacquiao...

Yeah, Mayfeeather "called him out," on Twitter...

    I seen the tweets...

And then, when they talked on the phone, Floyd wouldn't agree to a 50/50 split, which is only a fair split...

    Mayfeather copout 3.0...

I seriously doubt he's going to be slower. Remember now, Floyd walks around before his weight cuts at appx 152. He's just not going to be cutting weight for this fight.

I know, but, typically, when a fighter goes up in weight, they drop a little speed...

But, in all fairness, Floyd, as much as he irritates me at times, is not your typical fighter...

Typically, yes, but he's not going up in weight, he's just fighting in a slightly heavier weight class. When he rehydrates after weighins during his past few welterweight fights he is between 150-152, right where he'll be come weighin time against Cotto.

Well, another fight for Mayweather and another win. I read he made 32 million this fight, a Nevada state record, plus endorsements and a cut of the PPV sale. Crazy money for a fight.
