The state of people on the brink of starvation is shocking, there are so many very hungry people. the first thing they need is water, so, seeing as how somalia and yemen are right next to the sea, a desalination plant could help. this would cost a fraction of bottled water to reach them.

Or, they could observe it is spring there, so rain fall will be on the way. alternatively, they could create water vapour by observing that a jet travelling at the speed of sound creates water, so, sound could generate the vapour required by being upped in pitch - take a huge speaker and put it 'on it's back.' then, put a lot of pots on top of the speaker, and then do the right things to create sound waves that travel fast, and then get the water.

The thing is now they also need food, besides me plethora of 'water making ways.' but, the water can lead to food, yes?

If they were to observe that, in my country, the bushmen were into eating the roots of 'bush,' they could eat the roots of grass and trees too?

Who is going to invest in desalination plants or recharge dams in a country that is unstable ?

Nobody is rushing to invest in Syria or restart Yemen's oil business.

There's only so much the US can do... and at this point, I am inclined to let them starve.

Maybe the question should be why it is unstable? if it came down to it, the militants would also starve due to a lack of food, as they also receive from charity. but, then again, if they see a dam of the enemy, they will blow it up. this will harm the people, not the enemy, as the soldiers get first out of the welfare.

Maybe an appeal to the warring factions could save many people? maybe 'some voice' could show them that destroying food will harm people they are fighting for more than it will harm their enemy?

They are still fighting for something they will never get. the state can buy guns for a fraction of what is spends on service delivery and there are still people paying taxes. the militants will receive more money from the benefactors or people that think they receive something from the wars - but do they, and, if so, how do they?

There is no way for the US or the Europeans to make them care about their own situation. We can't make them pull together for clean water, education and healthcare.
