Former army officer and gun lover: we need more gun control

"A witness to the deadly mass shooting at a Texas mall on Saturday said he's a 'gun lover.' Then he called for more gun control.

"Steven Spainhouer, who said he is both a former police officer and a former Army officer, rushed to the scene of the shooting on Saturday, arriving even before emergency responders.

" 'When you get hit with an automatic weapon fire at close range, there is no opportunity for survival,' Spainhouer told MSNBC. 'I don't know what the gunman's problem was, but it wasn't mental health that killed these people. It was an automatic rifle with bullets.'

"A gunman opened fire inside Allen Premium Outlets on Saturday, killing eight people and injuring seven others before a police officer who happened to be nearby shot and killed him. Police have not yet identified the gunman or his motivations."

Mental health professionals have been unable to identify and effectivey treat those prone to committing mass shootings. None of the "solutions" proposed by gun activists are working.

Efforts to prevent mass shootings should be focused on restricting access to guns and keeping them out of the wrong hands.

 

how can anyone take him seriously when he said it was an automatic weapon. it clearly was not. banning guns will fail as badly or worse than prohibition or the war on drugs. The people who push gun bans know that but their main goal is banning guns, not stopping shootings. So they continue to push for gun bans no matter what the evidence is concerning crime control

He tries to invoke the fact that the man being a former police officer is supposed to give more weight to his argument but all that does is prove his agenda because there are plenty of cops who love their guns but they don't want civilians to have them

 

I remember several gun banners trotted out some general who was a hard core gun banner-as if that guy had credibility. He's even worse since he took an oath to defend the constitution and yet he wants to crap all over it

 

If our Op wants someone like that to have more credibility behind their argument then it might be more believable if the person who is the subject of the thread was to get rid of his guns.

It appears everything he would've learned about guns serving in the Army he musta forgot when he joined the gun banner party.

Mental health professionals arent going to be able to treat people who avoid seeking professional help because they want to avoid losing their rights. Our approach to treating the mentally ill like criminals is part of what's making them get worse.

 

I have been saying that for years-if someone who is suffering minor mental illness (ie they can still understand most things-or maybe just about anything that a totally sane person can) knows that if he tells his doctor that he is depressed etc, the doctor will rat him out and he will have all his guns seized even if he is of no danger to anyone, he won't see the doctor and he may get to the point he really is a danger. gun banners often don't consider the deleterious consequences of their "WE NEED TO DO SOMETHING RIGHT NOW" solutions

 

That's like a medical marijuana permit. So many people who could benefit from medical marijuana do not do so because having a medical marijuana card would then make you a prohibited person under federal law.

My girlfriend has survived two forms of cancer and has had her larynx removed and suffers basically constant pain and sees a pain control Dr. She would like to get a medical marijuana card but she hesitates to do so because it would probably cause her pain control doctor to drop her as a client

 

Ya, its not just guns tho. People can lose their job and custody of their kids if they get diagnosed with a mental illness. For some, seeking help would be the 'craziest' thing they could do.

Gun banners tend to lionize people who say the stuff they want, even if what is said is easily seen as bullshit by anyone who understand the law. It's like some of our anti gun posters who fluffed a former ATF HOSTAGE NEGOTIATOR as an expert on firearms. The guy is now a medial whore who has almost no credibility on firearms. but since he says AR 15s are weapons of war that should be banned, he is canonized by the victim disarmament movement

 

Technically they are not illegal but the average person has zero hope in owning one legally.

I'm sorry to hear about your girlfriend and hope that she is able to get her pain under control and keep it that way.
Really good Pain Management doctors are extremely hard to find and a decent one would not drop her over a medical marijuana card but I'm sure that she knows her situation best.

 

I think they would work, but they have never been given a chance. Why? Because the fringe argues any solution is a "ban" even when its not. We had a FOX poll on another thread with 5 solutions, none of which were band, and they were supported by 80+% of the population and majority of gun owners.

Gun owners SHOULD want to do something, because if nothing is done the situation will reach a boiling point, and then we will have actual bans

Maybe you should take him seriously because he was there rendering first aid to the victims, while you are here arguing against any and all solutions to the problem. As for his comment about automatic rifle , he arrived after the shooting had taken place, so he probably assumed it was an automatic rifle considering the extent of the carnage.

what we want done is the government actually targeting criminals rather than wasting our time with democrat schemes to harass lawful gun owners and then getting upset when we call that bullshit for what it is: Democrat schemes to do nothing about crime while harassing us

 

It's a real pain in the ass because you have to see the pain control doctor every month for a refill and it's a 50 mile drive. One of the few negatives of living in a small town. And thank you for your well wishes.

Prohibiting gun ownership guarantees that only criminals will possess guns. The gun black market will explode. It'll be mayhem.
