I had someone in my last thread post "Clinton/Obama troll" in reply to my OP.
I voted for Trump. I can't be a Clinton/Obama troll. That guy needs glasses.

    A couple of observations-
1- PF boasts 4000 new posts per day, so it's impossible for any of us to keep up with more than a small proportion, so we either miss peoples posts or they miss ours..:)
2- Sometimes if I'm not sure whether a person wants a reply I do the next best thing and click the "Like this post" button just to let the person know I've seen his/her post..:)

To the two of you flirting in the back row. I can hear AND understand you. Both of you will be seeing the principle after class.

    "...click like this post."

    I do that too.
I wish there was a button for "read this post but don't feel like responding."

    While I'm here...

To the forum designers. Great layout, I like it. Just one thing. I don't need a notification letting me know that I quoted someone. I know I quoted someone because I was there when it happened.

Maybe not. Maybe the picture thing isn't broken. Maybe I'm just really ugly.

But if you quote say 10 people, how can you remember who they were unless you jot them down on a piece of paper?
With a list of notifications you can easily work down the list replying to them one by one..:)

You're female, that's all most men care about..:)
Hey you say in your profile that you like strategy games, which ones?
I've been- ahem- topping online strategy game league tables for the past 13 years under my fighting name 'Poor Old Spike' and am thinking of offering my services to Don Trump as a military adviser..:)

[IMG] Didn't Hoosier(sp) say he'd do one for you? If you took him up on the offer and sent him a pic maybe he thought you'd sent one of the back of a bus by mistake.

Risk, Axis and Allies, Fortress America, Chess (USCF Expert Rating which I just obtained after my last tournament).

P.S. Oh you're referring to online strategy games. I haven't tried those (except online chess). I we referring to board games that I use to play with my dad and uncles.

If I've quoted them then I've already replied to them.
I think you're referring to the list of people who quote you. I like that feature.
I just think it's weird that I see the notification light up and when I click it, it shows me who I just quoted. I already know I quoted that person cause I as there.

I started with boardgames 40 years ago but it was a helluva job finding opponents for face-to-face play, then when I got on the internet for the first time I could play by email against truckloads of people all over the world with computer games like Combat Mission and Armed Assault etc...:)

My college had a board gaming club and that's where I played.
The only game I play online is chess and truthfully I'm giving up on that. Too many opponents cheat by using computers.

I'll have to look up the online strategic games sometime.

Usually if someone replies in agreement with me, I give them a "Like" and/or a short reply. (There's only so much to talk about when they agree.) There are two kinds of replies in disagreement. One is what I call "graffiti". That is that short, hostile reply. I may or may not respond back to that, often times not. The other is the longer, more detailed reply. When I think someone has put some effort into their disagreement with me, then I will always respond back to them, and I try to do it with at least as much effort and explanation. I don't mind carrying that on back and forth until I'm pretty sure we've both totally explained our points of view. Usually after a point I'll thank them for the conversation and give 'em a "like" just for the effort even if we don't agree on things.

Some people aren't really here for the discussion. They're here to post their own point of view, but not for a debate. So when you reply back to someone and get nothing in return, you've probably found one of those people. Don't let that bother you. That's not your fault. I've been here about a year, and I have picked out some people who I like responding to because I know they'll give you a fair argument and stick with the conversation. As time goes by you'll sort of figure out who those people are too.

    Cheers!

    Congratulations :)

I just found out. He says he called me a troll because (as he says) I'm pretending to be a Trump supporter but I'm really not.

I still am at a loss for what precisely Is a Troll.
I mean,a Troll can't possible be like some fish. A Carp { bottom feeder who will
bite on a marshmellow as bait }.Or some Catfish lookin' for a good fight.
    Or an expensive Sailfish that takes all afternoon to find and then attract {proper bait & rig }
and then land.Plus all the expense of the trouble.
But I'm a guessin' that a good troll might reguire All That !.
I wonder what Trolls think of having their pictures taken sitting on
    Santa's lap,I do.

I don't see it, but it most be around.

Is there a page that tells me what all the little icons mean that are next to the threads?
The stars (how does the thread get them?) , the little envelopes. The green checkmark dots, etc.

I'm not talking about the emojis next to the post. I'm talking about the icons you see when you're looking at the main page of new threads.

Thanks for the detailed response. I have run across some of those "not here for debate" types. They no longer get long replies.
