Ian Murdock, of the Debian project, dedicated to providing a free and open source Linux distribution, spent several hours yesterday ranting on twitter over his treatment by the police after having threatened to kill himself.

Murdock made the following notable statements via his account at @imurdock

According to his statements, he was beaten and raped by the police, as you can see. His current wellbeing is unknown.

Maybe the media will actually care now that it happened to a wealthy white man.

If what has happened to Ian Murdock is true, the police officers who tormented him should be fired.

The fact that he is a wealthy white man means it will be less likely that the media will take notice, not more likely.

The only thing wrong in this scenario is the police were forced to intervene to help a suicidal person, which often can lead to injuries because most do not have the training needed to handle situations like this... pure speculation on my part but many of his injuries could have been sustained when the police decided to end the situation with force rather than talk it out, maybe they felt an immediate threat and there was no time to talk him down into a transportation by ambulance, maybe he resisted the idea after they were summoned for help and restrained him with force so he wouldn't hurt himself or others, and because he was fighting those attempting to help...

I'm not sure this is a case where the media should be putting his face and story on the nightly news, that very well at this stage in his life could be what pushes him over the edge, much like physical force by the police when he felt they could have done it a different way, but who knows what amount of force was or was not needed since we weren't there... the only thing one can hope is that his wealth is able to buy him the help he needs to overcome this emotional moment in his life... whatever that help may be, its clear he needs it sooner rather than later, because there might not be a later for him to complain about police abuse if he doesn't get help...

P.S. everyone upgrading to windows 10 might want to learn all the stuff it sends back to microsoft without your permission, well it got your permission because you clicked yes on the agreement you never read... this is why things like Debian are slowly rising in popularity, I'm more of an Ubuntu person myself, but its amazing what security we give up to ignorance...

Did you read the part where he describes being forcibly stripped by a woman and then comments that people don't think it's rape if it happens to a man? Because I'm pretty sure he was trying to say that he was raped.

Also, I personally use Gentoo Linux, although I'm thinking of going back to Arch Linux or switching to CRUX.
