I prefer democratic socialism, which was wildly successful in the US from 1945-73 and in Western Europe, over the inefficient corporate nanny state, which is what we have now. There is nothing more phony than the idea of free market capitalism. It doesn't exist.

I beg to differ. I think that free market capitalism is superior, with respect to most services, than government.

What we have here is the best free market capitalist country in the world. And this is the result of free market capitalist monopolies. So why do you complain?

You like free market. this is it. the only other free market is like Afganistan, No taxes, no regulations, no big gubment oversight. No big gubment taking away your freedomes.

I love the way people jump from government control all the way past free market to near anarchy.

A free market requires some government to protect individual property rights and to provide consumer protections. A free-market will still have a government to protect you from theft. They will protect you from people selling things that don't work as advertised. They will protect your right to purchase or not to purchase from whoever you choose - as long as the other party is willing too.

They won't force you to purchase anything. They won't favor one business over another. They won't subsidize businesses. They won't create unnecessary regulations or license requirements in the name of health or safety. These are elements of corporatism that damage a free-market. They are the activities that make it easy for giant corporations to develop and stomp out all competition.

Markets aren't free there are alliances formed - for instance remember when import cars were so cheap and dependable that the regular folks could afford them -TARIFFS!
I'd rather have a free people -the Promise of 1776- than a big school of fish in an aquarium that can live only in what they are subjected to and hope Poseidon shows up one day to clean it or grant them more freedom.
