Free speech: Does exposure to extreme divisive ideologies mitigate their propagation?

It seems to me that some on the forums believe so. Is there any science based data to back the claim? I read many books on sociology and communication and have yet to see evidence that the more we allow something like antisemitic speech the more it drives people away from it thus reducing antisemitism in the country.
