The big question is not whether significant life extension technology will be invented in the next few decades, but rather what form it will take. The possibilities range from nano-tech (incredibly small machines in your bloodstream doing various essential medical things) to retro-virus tinkering with your DNA (such as convincing your body it doesn't really want to grow old) to more mundane methods like chemical cocktails and transplants of vital organs. Estimates also range from adding another 25 to 30 years of life, to a major breakthrough that could see extra centuries of life.

It's unlikely this technology would be available for quite some time to the non-rich, so that potential gap between the elite and the rest of us is quite possible. It's even possible that fewer upper-echelon jobs will be available to the non-rich, as potential heirs to fortunes will have to find whole new careers to occupy their time while they wait for mom or dad to finally retire, thus occupying a greater and greater percentage of the good jobs in America. Overt class society, here we come!

Yeah I'm not talking about old legacy money. But the majority of people who will ultimately consume new and more expensive healthcare will be the working rich. The people who are doctors, lawyers, small business owners, engineers, and other high skilled professionals. These people are highly educated and likely to be married to someone who is also well educated. These people tend to be taller, more attractive, and smarter than the rest of the population and likely to have children with these same attributes who are then more likely to become well educated and high performing.

Everyone knows people like this. It's just how the world works.

An interesting dilemma from a human race standpoint, no doubt. No political or economic philosophy to date could curb such a dilemma. To dismiss the eventual outcome of the current trend would be a waste of time, for it is glaringly obvious. However, we are entering a dark age. Genius is only coddled if its perspective benefits the top, any other forced to die in obscurity. One need only look at the history of human development pertaining to nations to see natures blueprint of what humanity forming into a global form will go through. It is definitely going to get uglier before it gets better.

If we reduce the number of children born more than we already have, there will be no young workers to pay for retirement and medical for the oldsters. The other side to old age is that older workers are often inflexible and refuse to learn new technologies. Yes, they have wisdom and knowledge, but they also often lose the capability to learn quickly.

That's one of those, "what came first? The chicken or the egg", scenarios. But I get the gist.
