http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2017/06/19/...dded-athletics-fee-to-close-budget-shortfall/ Locally, this plan is becoming known as "pay to play". The school will charge $100 per sport for kids to participate in middle school sports and they will charge $200 per sport in high school sports. There is more. The Frisco ISD has the first indoor stadium for high school use in TX. The city and the ISD paid $115M, which includes $30M from the ISD for use of the stadium "to accommodate a new Frisco High School". The failure of a new bond initiative led the school board to delay the opening of 4 new schools for a year, so the stadium deal was a waste for that year. http://www.smoaky.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=137748 http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Frisco-ISD-Could-Delay-Opening-of-New-Schools-396731711.html This method of funding will set a precedent that school districts all over Texas and eventually, all of the US will follow. Once they see another way into our pockets, our money will disappear, or our kids will not play sports.
That first indoor stadium is at The Star, and is owned by the Dallas Cowboys. I'm not sure I like this idea. My district could certainly go that way as we are right next to Frisco. I certainly hope not though. I've got one kid halfway through school and the other starts this year.
I have 1 kid left in school. He is in band, jazz band, and baseball. If they make us pay for band and jazz band also, that's $600. I already spend about $600/year to attend games as it is. I also bought him a $2100 saxophone and pay for a band trip every year. I think it's simply mismanagement of tax dollars. There are too many highly paid administrators who are underworked. The latest perk for superintendents is luxury housing provided on top of their salaries.
