    Gavin Newsom’s pick for California senator, Laphonza Butler… lives in Maryland

    Nothing will happen of course. Democrats know that with the deep state and the media in their pockets, laws and rules don't apply to them.

    Actually, the odds were 3-5 that Newsome would pick someone named "Laphonza", beating out Shamika and Tyroness.

    This genius also worked on Kamala Harris failed presidential campaign, not even getting her to the primaries.

    Yeah, I saw this story earlier and thought back to how the libs said Newsom shouldn't have a problem finding a qualified black woman in the state of California. What happened?

    GOP lawmaker Issa demands answers from Newsom, Senate leaders on Laphonza Butler's Maryland residency

    Issa says Butler's appointment a potential violation of California constitution

    What laws and rules are you claiming should apply? She’ll face the voters soon and we’ll decide if we care she spent a couple years in Maryland.

    I mean, technically in the 21st century state borders aren't what they used to be. But it does still have some relevance, as ideally a state senator or representative should be able to effectively serve the issues of that State.

    She’s not a state Senator. She’s a US Senator from the state of CA. The voters get to decide very soon anyway.

    The stuff the NY Post won't tell you

    SNIP
    Butler moved to Maryland in 2021 around the time she was chosen to lead EMILY’s List, public records show. She was registered to vote in Maryland in 2022, according to public records, but Newsom’s office said Monday, in response to questions about Butler’s residency, that she has re-registered to vote in California.
    ENDSNIP

    https://www.cnn.com/2023/10/01/politics/laphonza-butler-dianne-feinstein-successor/index.html

    I'll be honest, I'm still very confused as to what happens in California.... is THIS correct?

    SNIP
    California will hold two Senate elections next November: a special election for the remaining months of Feinstein’s term until January 2025 and another for a full six-year term.
    ENDSNIP

    Is that "next November" in 1 month or 13 months?

    They will vote in November 2024 to see who sits in the seat until January 2025??

    13 months is what I saw. Sounds right. She’s got the job until January when the new congress is sworn in. At least I think so.

    What’s racist about a name? Wait, did you assume those names somehow specified a person’s race?

    The left always tries to hide it but it always comes out.

    This is actually a genius pick. Not for all of the identity BS that democrats crave like electrolytes, but appointing someone who is a fundraiser to the Senate....

    I have to give Newsome credit on this one.

    OK, there are three things to address, here. First, would be your unfounded assertion, that the mainstream media will ignore this. When I Googled the question of Feinstein's replacement's residency, the ANSWER, which it gave, first thing, came from Business Insider

    <Google Snip #1>
    But according to a filing with the Federal Election Commission from September 2023, Butler doesn't live in California, nor anywhere close to the state. Instead, it appears she lives in Silver Spring, Maryland, a Washington, DC suburb.5 hours ago
    https://www.businessinsider.com › ...
    <End Snip #1>

    Additionally, this is from USA TODAY's story, Google's top choice, after the printed answer, above, and a set of optional questions, for which one can get answers:

    <Snip>
    Butler is a current resident of Maryland. A spokesman said she owns a home in View Park, California and a place in LA where she will reside. She has already re-registered to vote in the state.
    <End Snip>

    https://www.usatoday.com/story/news...placement-new-california-senator/71030883007/

    So the MSM are relaying this fact, which makes the source of fake news, rather, to be you, with your baseless, and wrong, contentions about the MSM. Ironic, yes?

    But the real irony, here, is that most Senators, really do spend most of their time, in Washington, DC, which is where Butler had already moved, two years ago, when she became president of Emily's List. She moved there from California, where she still has her home:

    <Google Snip #2>
    Is Laphonza Butler a California resident?

    Butler is a longtime California resident and homeowner. She moved to the DC area when she became president of Emily's List.5 hours ago
    https://nypost.com › 2023/10/02
    Maryland resident Laphonza Butler to be California senator - New York Post
    <End Google Snip #2>

    To review: Butler is a long time California resident. She owns a home in California. She also "has a place" in LA, where, now that she will be the CA Senator, she will reside-- when she's not in Washington, DC, of course, doing her job. She has already even changed her voter registration, back to California. The question then becomes, is there anything wrong with her being chosen as someone to fill out, Feinstein's term. This would be the second issue I'm addressing.

    Not only is it not a violation of any rules, to appoint someone from out of state as a California Senator, but it is even perfectly allowable for anyone from out of state, to run for CA Senator:

    <Google Snip #3>
    California's own summary of qualifications for its March 2024 Senate primary says there is no durational residency requirement. Politically, Butler could face questions about her ties to the state. Residency questions are a timeless attack in US politics.5 hours ago
    https://www.businessinsider.com › ...
    <End Google Snip #3>

    So there is nothing untoward going on here, and no MSM coverup. How disappointed, you must be. The USA TODAY story also mentions that there is no indication at present, that Butler has any intention of running next year, to retain that seat. I think it is unlikely that she will, considering all of the popular, experienced politicians, who have already announced that they are running, including Representatives Adam Schiff, Katie Porter, and Barbara Lee. So, both from my personal perspective, as well as legally and ethically, there was nothing wrong with Newsom's decision.

    That said, the last issue, is whether or not this was a wise thing to do. Butler may be someone who has excellent qualifications, to assume such an elevated position, out of the blue. Yet I feel it still would have been better to have gone with someone who had currently been residing in California, provided such a person had comparably noteworthy qualifications. What complicates the situation, is that normally one might expect a California politician to be tapped, to fill the vacancy, with there then being a special election, to fill that person's seat. But, with three CA Representatives already competing for Feinstein's Senate seat, in the upcoming election, Newsom would not want to give any one of the three, an added advantage, would not want to play favorites.

    Lastly, though, I do think it is clear that Newsom is playing politics, or relying on personal connections, in this appointment of an ally of Kamala Harris, to whom Newsom is closely tied. That said, politicians often do "play politics" which, in & of itself, is nothing particularly remarkable. And there would be nothing intrinsically wrong with a governor's appointing a personal friend, to fill a post, provided that friend is competent for the job. I do not know much about Butler, but what little I've thus far gathered, supports the idea that this will be seen to be the case.

    My racism? What did I post that was racist? I didn’t assume race from a name.

    And actually, the racist is the greaseball who discriminated against 98% of CA’s population when he chose Lufthansa.

    So if someone says Billy Smith are you going to also say it's racist?

    At most you could say it was stereotyping. Would you like me to go look at the definition of actual racism for you?
