Some like to claim that there is no such thing as homophobia. Some prefer to pretend that homosexual people don't suffer in special ways. Others like to imagine that bullying has no real effects. They are wrong. It's time to put down (challenge) the homophobia, bigotry and hypocrisy; strike back with a sense of purpose and reasonable self-esteem. I think this video will help or inform the hearts and minds of many IMO. "It Gets Better"
That was pretty cool. There's more. I'm particularly proud to be a part of this- the You Can Play Project. http://youcanplayproject.org/videos/entry/you-can-play-tommy-wingels http://youcanplayproject.org/videos/entry/you-can-play-dustin-brown-alec-martinez It IS getting better.
I'm SO HAPPY to see stuff like this!! So very glad that people are beginning to realize and understand that homophobia doesn't help one darned bit. Many young people (thank God) are getting this right!!
Yep- Tommy Wingels marched with my team in Pride this past year. He's awesome and a lot of fun. I should note that this is just one team I play for. I play for an all straight team as well. They all know I'm gay and we are all good friends. Here's a pic from Pride last year of us with Tommy.
Great vid, thanks for posting!!! I no longer tolerate intolerance in my life. When I am subjected to intolerance, I now through it right back in the persons face... we all have things to be judged on... so when a stone smashes the window of my glass house... I pick it up and through it right back. Not very spiritual... I know... but after so many years of being judged on the superficial... I like to give those whom judge others a little taste of their own medicine.
how is one man's narrative a demonstration that people are deathly afraid of those who are gay? I've yet to see anyone run for cover because a gay girl walked by. I've seen people run and scream when a hornet or wasp is near them; never a gay person. But then again, how do you know someone is gay? Is there a mark on their forehead? homophobia- BS nobody is deathly afraid of what you do but, you need that "term" for some unknown reason within your group.
I know the definition of phobia the gay movement has tried to coin it to mean something else. That dog don't hunt and using an incorrect label on people who don't suck your exhaust does not help your cause
Definition of homophobia according to Merriam Webster: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/homophobia That's pretty clear.
Doesn't seem to me, that 'gays' are trying to redefine a word that's been around for a good while. I think it bothers some, because it simply 'applies' to something that they'd rather NOT have described/defined.
please look up phobia when your special interest group is allowed to define and word and then it's put into a dictionary it is suspect at best. again, look up phobia and tell me if you think people are deathly afraid of homosexual people
You are relating nonsense. BTW, 'I' don't possess or ascribe to any "special interest group", except maybe those pertaining to military veterans. I've studied the word itself, where it comes from and researched more than average background about what it actually means. I was but a child when Dr. Steven Weinberg put the term into use. As has already been suggested and proven... it's a valid word contained within the English lexicon, like "cat", "house", "sequester" and "psoriasis". One either applies it or not. At this point, that is all there is to it; there is no need to go on foolishly debating the word "homophobia". Now, as far as the topic of this thread, I suppose we could argue the sources of pain and suffering inflicted upon individuals and certainly, homophobia is one of them. Homophobia is the only logical thing that could motivate many to think/behave as they do as it pertains to homosexuality and homosexual people. I stopped counting the homophobic-bullies I've encountered in life, and I just started punching back in every way that was effective. I'm happy that I did that, instead of curl up into a ball in some lonely corner of society. Not only that, I've taught others to take the fear/anger HURLED at them by "homophobes" and use the momentum against them. Sad to say that homophobes DO bully people and seek to make the lives of others miserable; in that sense concerning human effects, it is almost identical to "racism"; I know what a Black man feels when he's rejected and singled-out for being 'different' (firsthand). It's interesting that the word which describes"a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others" VERY OFTEN is also protested by racists themselves. People who are homophobic don't like being called-out, understandably so... but why should something which affect so many NEGATIVELY ever be ignored? Maybe if homophobes curled-up into a corner, lonely and in fear... one could be more sympathetic with that condition; but no... many homophobic people choose to LASH OUT at those who are homosexual, as if the the homosexual person OWES them 'relief' for problems which the homophobic person should deal with their self. Now, anyone can look up the word homophobia and apply it. If one does not wish to do that, they can simply describe the behavior or mindset which correlates. Either way, the THING that homophobia is has been identified and defined; and that is clear enough.
Read the dictionary again, please. Read the definition of homophobia and do try to understand what words mean. It truly cannot be more clear.
sec meet wall, wall, sec now go ahead and have a conversation because it's the same as talking to these intolerant leftists who will not even admit that their own group coined the phrase despite misusing the term phobia
Would you like me to post the dictionary definition of "homophobia" for you again? What was unclear? You seem to think there is some conspiracy to make up words or something out there. Do you have proof of said conspiracy?
Ooops!! In a previous post I referred to Dr. Steven Weinberg; that should have been Dr. George Weinberg. Sorry about that.
