Talk about passive resistance, heh heh. Oh yes, he is a Gay Republican. So yeah, there are a few Republicans left that still believe in the rule of law.
There will be enough clerks even in the Reddest of Red States that will obey the USSC ruling and issue the licenses. Gay couples will find them...and eventually most of the rest of the clerks will just get tired of being angry and outraged month-after-month... and they'll agree. Only the last die-hard homophobes will still be fighting this in a half a year.....and some of those have their own personal "issues."
Get the Government out of the marriage business = problem solved. The only reason that marriage licences issued by the government even exist was mainly to ban inter-racial marriages. Why does a practice enacted for mainly racial reasons still exists today?
It's a war of attrition. They are not a majority anymore...they've already lost. Rush Limbaugh saw this coming years ago (he talked about it on his show), and the anti-gay conservatives didn't believe him. - - - Updated - - - Straight people don't want to do that.
I think you would be surprised. In fact, it is one of the main Libertarian platforms. p.s. I'm "straight".
I'm not religious. If the government is completely out of the marriage "business" and I don't go to a church, how do I get married?
Enter into a legally binding contract. You do not need the Government's or a church's permission to love someone or to declare your life to someone.
Legally binding. Legal. As in the law. Wait, I thought you didn't want the government involved at all?
While courts are governmental funded, they are not the Government. They do not make the laws, they just interpret them. Didn't you learn this in your civics class? Besides, courts do not need to get involved unless there is a dispute over the contract itself. They can even be dissolved without court intervention if the conditions and methods are included within the contract.
And courts are part of the government. Didn't you learn this in your civics class? Does the phrase "three branches of government" ring a bell?
Not in the regards of making laws or issuance of licences (at least they are not suppose to be). They are part of the Government, but they are not the Government. They do not govern.
