Be careful what you wish for, huh? When you let the govt take and inch, they mean it to be a mile. Did the Catholic Church learn anything from this? I hope so. The lesson would be that govt is a monster that must not be over fed and kept on a short leash. What should the Church do to keep govt from interfering in it's tradition and policy?
Well first of all the church should be able to use the government to impose its views on the masses, this much is clear. I mean, big government is bad, unless you can use it to forward your own agenda.
Any institution, religious or otherwise, that coddles the proponents of Big Gov and seeks their blessings is setting the stage for its own "breaking" session.
I partially disagree with Will. This is not what liberalism looks like. This is what nascent totalitarianism looks like: eliminate all non-governmental institutions. Stalin or Castro would be proud of them.
Not likely. They're probably too busy buggering boys to notice that the vast majority of Catholics want access to birth control.
The point is that the church is very keen to push its own moral agenda, meanshile not living up to the same standard (by any stretch of the imagine).
